Dave runs through this stuff so quickly and proficiently, it's a lot of information to take in under a very short period of time. He doesn't "hem" or "haw" with his statements. This means you need to pay attention and focus closely on what he says. It's impressive and intimidating, but watching these videos over and over helps you pick up a LOT on what's going on through various scenarios. Huge endorsement for Dave and getting your bike set up. If you have ANY doubts, abandon them. If you have the opportunity to have Dave work on your bike at the track, do NOT pass it up. If you can't because of location, then you should look into getting your suspension professionally adjusted regardless. Thanks for the video, Dave!

I love how Dave asks 1 question and knows exactly what screw(s) to turn which direction and solves (presumably hours of frustration) in 5 seconds. That must be both satisfying and infuriating to most of those riders/Dave's customers. At the end of the day, being happy with your bike is worth much more than you paid for it. DM has a no nonsense approach to suspension diagnosis and problem solving, he explains well and reasons why adjustments are made the way they are . I understand better than most the part that cause and effect play when it comes to suspension settings due to my performance work with Shock's and suspension when applied to Race Car's. Dave's knowledge and approach when it comes to Tuning both Street and Track bikes IS IMHO the Pinnacle. Based on my knowledge I tuned my Ducati suspension reasonable well or so I thought until digested some of Dave's Video's and realised that just like a Race Car the Tyres TELL you the story learn to read that correctly and apply the principles of Dave's Tuning and you are well on the way to gain much more enjoyment from your bike I think we Bike rider's are blessed to have someone such as Dave Moss who give us this information freely . This is a man who knows his shit. I wish my MT-07 had adjustable suspension. It feels like riding a bouncy rock like that MT-10 looked before he adjusted it. I've already adjusted the preload on the rear (5/9) and put thicker oil in the forks (10w to 15w) and removed 5mm of air but that's all I can do without spending a lot of money. By the time I've spent all the money upgrading the suspension I could have just bought an MT-09 or MT-10.
@catalystreactionsbw4 жыл бұрын
Looks like you didn't measure static sag on the forks. 15w fork oil is corrcet, but you need to shorten the preload spacer by 12mm.
@6Twisted4 жыл бұрын
@@catalystreactionsbw Thanks for the tip. I assume adjustable caps won't do the trick alone and I'll have to actually shorten the spacer first? If so that can be a job for the next owner because I can't be bothered to take the forks apart again xD
@catalystreactionsbw4 жыл бұрын
@@6Twisted Adjustable caps could make the situation worse if you are using the OEM spacers at stock length. Measure your static sag now. It should be 20-25mm. If it isn't then cut the spacers 12mm, install and measure again.

Somehow I got a puncture in the bladder in the rear shock on my yz125, which released most of the nitrogen into the suspension fluid. Talk about pogo! I decided to just go ahead and rebuild the front and rear suspension and I've gotta say it taught me so much about how important proper suspension setup is. I just started from factory settings and worked from there, but honestly I think the single most important part was setting the race sag, I didn't realize how much that would help especially if you plan on adjusting the suspension, you've gotta have a proper base setting to work off
@catalystreactionsbw4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for diving into the work after the bladder failure. The results are certainly worth the work and now via a little fine tuning via your eyes in monitoring how much travel is used in the forks and shock, your bike will truly becomes YOURS!

Thanks for the informative videos Dave.
@catalystreactionsbw4 жыл бұрын
Look at the shock travel on the shock shaft and use a cable on the right fork leg. That will tell you how soft/stiff they are. From there once sag is set, you adjust compression to get more or less travel and rebound based on oil viscosity when hot. In the channel search rebound and search compression for the correct videos. Enjoy the learning.
