Some are commenting that the ads are intrusive. Ordinarily I’d agree with, but Dave just gifted us a masterclass in bike suspension tuning - for free to us. So, he needs to get paid, but unlike a lot of egos who are essentially just farting opinions into the net, Dave’s advice is genuinely valuable. Actually, I’d argue it’s priceless. So he deserves to get paid, and paid well. The ads are fine. Now I’m going to watch again. I’m a fast empirical learner, but a slow learner when being taught. Thank you for sharing Dave. Awesome advice.

This is doing the very basic setup to get the bike somewhere right to your weight. To do a complete set up you need to ride the bike and really know what needs to be done, or use some advanced matrix mesurment tools. The difference from a good suspension set up to a great one can be a second per lap. I had great set ups perhaps 2 or 3 times during my time of racing, and I wish I would have spent more time learning this art as it makes more of a difference when it comes to lap times then anything else. Used to have an 06 with a gsxr fork swap and ohlins 30mm cartridge kit and loved the way it handled. My question is this: how much better would a gsxr front end with an aftermarket cartridge be than the stock forks with an aftermarket cartridge (just saw that ohlins makes one) now that the stock forks have four pot calipers? In other words, could I get close to the performance of a fork swap by just installing a cartridge kit and some better pads and lines? I also plan on replacing the shock. Not interested in emulators. Most of my riding is on the street with occasional track days. Thanks!

Later I put the suspension on the lowest setting. The previous owner put 180 55 rear tyre so rear end of bike is higher with this setup because front is 120 60 r17 stock. Should I change maybe front tyre to 120 70 r17 because to put front end higher and enable future speed woble and crashes, watched motorcycle like gsxr 600 and 1000 and they have rear 180 60 the front is 120 70 not 120 60, thanks.

I have a Nitron rear and uprated k-tech springs on my series 2 (k3). The back end is good; the OE was a limiting factor when the speed went up on track. I'm sure the forks are still the weakness with lack of adjustment and crude action with a damping rod. I don't want to transplant forks. Is the Adriani kit a good buy?

I've never understood how people can go do track days with little to no understanding of suspension
@marcusgeorge18254 жыл бұрын
Russ the Highlander everyone has started out with little or zero knowledge about suspension set ups. On the track is actually the best and safest way to actually learn the craft due to it being a controlled environment! Much safer and easier to do and learn than on the streets! I know Dave will agree with this... 👍😎

Plus “track days” are different to actual race days.

I think you missed my point. If you are doing a track day on track bikes (which these are being used as... well most of them were) then one would think you'd have an understanding of suspension as well rather than just buy a track bike and hope for the best. At least that's how I would think. I mean come one these these bikes weren't even close to being set up properly.

Russ the Highlander I actually believe you have reinforced my point and you’re missing it entirely. Have you done any track days or raced? I have. When I started I knew bugger all about suspension set up. How/why do you think someone like Dave tunes around 3,500 bikes per year? Tuning is a learnt art for suspension settings and takes years to really understand. You can be incredibly fast on a track, even with the wrong settings. However, the right adjustments isn’t something you can learn from reading a book. It takes years to master! So, what point is it that I’m missing? How many bikes have you actually set up? Or is your point based on lack of knowledge and just what you think should be correct? Dave wouldn’t be in business if riders (of all levels, inclusive of “A” grade racers). I know when I started 100 years ago, my team manager and a couple of others did the bike setups for me, which also changed due to different weather, different tracks etc... I was just quick, learnt and became quicker as a result. I know Dave wasn’t born with al of his wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom.

Russ the Highlander just to add, if you listen to the actual riders most do have a basic understanding and relay that information about how the bike behaves. This also helps with the setups. It’s just the complexity of the required adjustments for not only the bike but more importantly the rider. Hence why people like Dave, all across the globe, can make a living out of it. The best $60 anyone could possibly spend on their own bike as just two clicks could actually turn into seconds gained per lap! The absolute best bang for buck possible!

Hey Dave. With the stage 3 rider who had his 2cts at 27F and 32R you said he should be running a minimum of 32 F&R for 2cts but when you gave him adjustments to make after tuning the suspension you said +3F and +1R. Which would only put the front at 30F. Is this because you don't want to make to dramatic a change on tyre pressure after making changes to suspension so the rider can getting better feedback from the suspension changes? Cheers.

Great question. The tire is already hot, so we lost the opportunity with cold pressures as there is no linear relationship between cold and hot air. So, add the pressure and see how the tire responds. If it shows too hot, we add 3 more. Chasing incorrect pressures is tricky and needs to be methodical in the approach.

@catalystreactionsbw Жыл бұрын
That is possible, and that can also be from UV damage in the 8-10 hours the bike was out in the sun.
