I am a woman with Ankylosing spondylitis and the constant emphasis that I "couldn't have that" because I am female led to me being dismissed for my pain for almost 40 years and not getting diagnosed and put on a biologic until I had major damage. I am HLA-B27 positive and you should perhaps mention that women CAN get this, and particularly if they have that gene mutation...

My mom suffered from AS for years. Finally bed ridden after at least 15 years being told it was arthritis & rheumatism we took her to UCLA. A medical student took a long survey of my mom’s history. The medical student Sometimes inexperience helps not to have bias. My mom worked for General Motors on the assembly line basically working like a man with her 5’1 petit body. AS has been thought a man’s disease. ❤️

Me, too, sister! Now the damage is done due to medical gaslighting! Well, I found my outside voice and I am not afraid to use it. Be your own best advocate, ladies!!

Do not let the memories of your past limit the potential of your future. There are no limits to what you can achieve on your journey through life, except in your mind. Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward. Stay relaxed, James

7/09/2024 @Catalyst University My A.S. Dx was incidental in 2018, at 65 y.o, discovered by X-ray when checking another problem. Though my symptoms started in Feb 2024, which are mainly pain in the neck at shoulder joint área, as well as some curvature. Taking 1 60 mg Etoricoxib daily, which has little pain relief effect. How do I get relief 😮‍💨 from constant ache at neck/should joint area??? Thx 🙏🏽

What about multiple compression fractures of T vertebra oh I don't know say T5 T6 T7 and T8 from a old injury could this trigger something like this to happen if the body is trying to stabilize/strengthen a weak section or if the vertebra pushed together now. I lost at least 3 to 4 inches in height and I believe it has affects on my breathing in some way

It’s a messed up illness you have to totally change your life style to minimize progression. No more coffee, red meats, breads, less sitting can only sleep for short hrs. Lots of yoga, and waking plus high medications.

@@ItsJustMe-nq1dg I been on it about a year it has helped a little. My dr said I left it untreated for so long late diagnosis at 40 years old. I have always had back pain but always the Dr's taught I just wanted pain medications. I take remicaed every 6 weeks I feel good for maybe 2 weeks. It does help some what at this point the damaged is done my si joints have become fused. I just got my first walking cane. But I tend not to use as much. Hope you feel better and I know your pain. We tend to look normally healthy on the outside but the inside we are living with pain mental issues. I am always mad to the pain buts you in a bad mood. I cry due to the pain. Stay stong

@@Welcome2TexasPodcast I’m sorry you have had it for so long that you have all the damage. I have had it a long time but no fusing had occurred. I have had symptoms in my 20’s and was diagnosed about 4 months ago at age 44. The pain is just so bad at times. Remicade is helping with some of the stiffness but pain is persistent. I would not wish this disease on anyone. Not even people I dislike very much! Lol 😂 Hang in there. ♥️
