Thats not a lot of rust. A lot of rust is when there's no nut left, just a blob of rusted metal where the nut used to be.

@@Anonymous_1210 indeed, but when something is rusty yet still has the complete shape of the nut vs something that has literally turned into a unidentifiable blob.....these are different worlds. I need to drop my sister's exhaust & there's areas I literally don't know what is the nut, bolt, or stud. It's literally just rounded, rusted, blobs. I think the only tool going on to any of it is something that cuts.
@Anonymous_1210
@Anonymous_1210 12 күн бұрын
@RothBeyondTheGrave yeah, no, I agree. I have some unlucky cases where the nut looks perfect, but the threads are locked together super tight due to oxidation
@RothBeyondTheGrave
@RothBeyondTheGrave 12 күн бұрын
@@Anonymous_1210 very true, looks can be deceiving. The ok looking nut could be completely welded & the rust blob might just crumble off in my hands hahaha... I did have front rotors once that were rust welded onto the hubs so bad, I inadvertently bent the hubs from what it took (& how long it took) to get them off.

Try without heat first…some of them especially Japan systems will certainly lock if you add heat ..

@terrybo5924 I work in the oilfield offshore. We mess with beyond rusty bolts. I spray oven cleaner on them and let them sit a little bit. Then use a hammer wrench to break them lose

Wouldn’t heating it up just make it tighter?
@jptrainor
@jptrainor 10 ай бұрын
In this case, the circumference of the nut increases, hence the diameter increases. Even in cases where it does get tighter, e.g. a steel bolt in a aluminum fixture, it can still work because it still breaks the corrosion bond.

Dude you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Heat the nut red hot with a torch and zip it off with an impact gun. 30 seconds from start to finish.
