Thanks Paul you been very helpful on this matter. You have the best way I've seen so far on getting the cc out of the header.

oh heck yah ! and to use a cylinder bore for the inside is genius !

I just wondered if an old school set of drag pipes or an aftermarket exhaust designed for pre cat bikes would fit these newer models. To me that would be the way to go.
@Cromagnon42 жыл бұрын
I saw another video where the guy simply pulled off the muffler and got down on the floor and did the same thing. He didn’t have to remove the header. Took him half the time as you see here. Header removal is pain.
@seniorp94442 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve seen the same videos. I don’t see the advantage of removing the header.

That's how I did it. Ran the same. Cooler? Probably. And had a throatier sound.

Great video. I was thinking of doing this to my 2014. Any issue with this procedure? Does it mess up the computer? Any warning lights? And will I need a retune? Thank again.
@paultipton69396 ай бұрын
Mine is a Milwaukee 8 engine. Your configuration is a little different. I had to retune. Engine will run cooler after. More airflow.
@morrisdennis Жыл бұрын

If you had to do it again, would you consider doing it with header mounted on bike?
@paultipton69392 жыл бұрын
I would but I was changing the cam so I had to take the head pipe off anyway but absolutely.

From all the videos I've seen about removing the cat you have all the exhaust flowing straight and the left side tube is smaller couldn't you weld in a divider to help direct flow

Hey Paul. Thanx for sharing your vid. It’s quick and to the point. That’s always appreciated. Just a couple of quick questions for you. Does this “trip” the O2 sensor at all and did you have to retune the engine for the air/fuel? Thanx much for your time, Paul. Byron, 2020 Roadglide Special
@paultipton69392 жыл бұрын
I did tune it when I was done but I changed a lot of stuff when I had it apart. Cam oil pump lifters push rods and intake. The sensors should not be affected they are just taking a reading. I don’t think you would have to but I’m not 100% sure.

Did you feel a loss of back pressure power after you put it all back together?
@paultipton69392 жыл бұрын
Sorry I just looked at this. I did loose a little bit of back pressure but mainly because I have 4” pipes. I am going to do a top end change in February and most likely go to a 2 in 1 exhaust that will help.

if i remove the Cat do i need a tuner to handle the change? I am using the SE tuner on a 131 kit, Thanks

I didnt change anything with my tune. It just runs cooler.
@Scoobydue420 Жыл бұрын
@@paultipton6939 well, than you must not know the tune of your bike. If you remove the cat, the comp MUST be reflashed. I work @sheldons Harley in Massachusetts, bike mechanic for 20 urs, and sadly, you are wrong. Good luck with your bike in the long run…..

Thanks for the video sir, did you have to get a tuner after?
@paultipton69392 жыл бұрын
I already had a tuner but I dont think you would need to retune. It cooled the engine quite a bit.

i took my dremmel and cut open the pipe on the side.where cat was located.just a window size hole and pulled out the cat.i had spare header in my cellar.2019 flhx.after the cat was out.2minutes.i took and got the piece welded back on.

Hi Paul, I am about to do the same way you get rid of the cat, one question, what is the capacity(amp/hour) do I need to drive the drill? I need to buy a hand set as well as the drill bit, tks.

Did it increase the volume at all after removing the cat? If not, how did it change the tone of the exhaust? What slip-ons are you using? Thanks
@paultipton69392 жыл бұрын
I have vance and hines 4” slip ons. The bike runs cooler and it sounds sweet. Thinking about going with a smaller pipe. I have a 468 zippers cam and I upgraded the oil pump tappets and tappet sleeves. Im happy with its performance.

I have a 2014 ultra classic. Canadian model. Do all 103 engine exhausts have cats on them? Does the bike have to be flashed again or does the bike work fine with it removed?
@paultipton69393 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if they have catalytic converter’s in a Canadian bike or not you could call Harley and find out I’m not the expert I just pulled the cat out because I wanted to move more air. I did get a new tune for the bike because I ended up changing the cam I put a new intake on it and some other changes so I did need to put a new map on the bike I don’t think just taking the cat out would effectt the bike that much really but I would check with you local dealer.

What's your thoughts on using a hole saw in the inside of the pipe? And would NAPA have a cylinder hone tool?
@paultipton69393 жыл бұрын
Holesaw’s not gonna fit and it’s not deep enough I used a paddle bit I just sacrificed it. Use like a inch and a half paddle bit for wood it went through and eventually it knocked the cat loose and I just pulled it out with a pair of pliers. Those honing tools are everywhere or you can find them at Walmart probably advanced auto and that’s if you’d want to get it really smooth I don’t think it’s that necessary I think taking a piece of sandpaper around a piece of PVC or something and just getting a rough edges off it’s gonna blow it out the tail pipe anyway if it comes loose so I wouldn’t sweat it.
