Remove catalytic converter Harley M8

De-cat Harley M8- takes about an hour total

I did this same method many years ago to a brand new 1988 Chevy S-10. I removed the muffler and pipes after the cat, got me a long steel rod with a point on it and a big hammer and within 15 minutes it was done! Truck ran so much better and sounded really good too! It had over 200K when I got rid of it.

Use a ball honing tool. Works great. 100 grit 120 works ok. Fast clean out.

why didnt you use a extension with a Cours then fine flapper to clean up the service .

By doing this catless do you lose back pressure or thing that would make the bike not run as efficiently ???

Did you see any issues that deterred you from doing this while the header was still on the bike? Aside from being able to dump out the debris, obviously.

Not at all, you can leave the exhaust system on and only remove the right muffler. Same process. Then start up to blow all debris out then reinstall muffler. I have done 2 bikes with the exhaust on for friends. It’s a bit harder to do it that way but not an issue at all.

Does the exhaust smell different after removing the cat?

It did smell at 1st but went away soon after.

Yes , the cats on a 114 heritage are on the slip On's, I put some Rinehart race mufflers, and the bike is somewhat louder and I smell exhaust fumes more. I now, cannot hear my speakers🤣🤣🤣😂🙃

Hi, anytime you change the air intake, spark or gas flow and exhaust flow you should retune.period. However, the M8s are tuned rich due to emission regulations so it will be fine if you don’t.

No engine light no faults. Some mechanics will say that if you change anything on airflow, spark or gas you need to retune. However the Harley original tune is already rich so no need to do anything
