DandyDrew, on the last mono green kinda talked orange into going for the brick. did you - at the time - think it was best not to talk back in chat as well? like I would have tried to convince orange that I do not have the win at the moment in my hand and he should rather mono green since they only need one city. or is your experience that not saying any counter is better overall given how players react most often?

I think pointing the road left at the start at the 3 6 9 would have been better. The 4 3 extension spot would have been great in the early game. When you went for the brick port first you couldn't really use it because you didn't have enough brick.

I mentioned this at the beginning - There is a chance we get plowed if we point left. Better to point down to open 2 guaranteed settle spots and focus on production + port play

@@dandydrew I do wonder if at 6:30 it might've not been worth it to 4:1 for 2 roads so you could go to the 6 2 port. It would slow down your game significantly, but it would more or less guarantee that you'd have road. hard to imagine red building all the way to the 5:2 at that point when he could just build down to his ore port.

Hey DandyDrew, big fan here. I have a question. I have managed to generally become good at getting great placements and I am usually on the lead early, but then the rest of the players target me and someone else ends up winning. Do you have a suggestion on how to deal with this? Especially when it's a game with a lot of 7s, it is just brutal!!

Thanks for the support! Pacing is a big subject and not easy to explain in a KZbin comment. Part of it is how you communicate with the table and the other part is how you move with the table. It’s possible you are being a bit too aggressive in building. There are cases where I will give up a city to pop once or twice, and let someone else city before me. It’s very common that the first city usually gets the most heat early on. If you find you are consistently getting over robbed, then you will need to experiment in your pacing to find a better flow. I do offer coaching for those interested in improving, if interested! Best of luck - DD

693 has been a running joke for me since I love the 693 to 83 play. In this case, 693 is really good and offers the best out options on the way back.

Could you / can you road past someone else's town? Could you have built 4 roads along to coast and won by connecting your two settlement areas?

Orange was annoyed with you because of your block,(which is dumb because you blocked the knight player who goes right after you, so good block). He then focused you and that monopoly brick was purely just to make you lose.

I did have the win in hand if he didn’t mono brick but maybe there was a deal for him to mono green and i can give him a brick or 2 so that he can extend road. Monoing brick was losing for him even if it stops me from winning.

why was 693 the pick over 1058 at the beginning?

It’s all about flexibility and outs. 693 is 3 unique resources and pairs really nicely with either 6311 or 8510 or 5411. Also giving 4th the 693 + 6311 is a but too good imo for 4th

24:02, why don;t you port sheep for brick and build an extra road to avoid 7ing out?

At 6:19 you just gave red the wheat for no reason. You could have ported the sheep for brick and get the same result without helping him 🥲

That’s certainly not the way. Leaving the 8 5 10 is very scary on this board and the brick port will simply get outpaced as the robber will be crushing the 8 brick to death. We had a great position but a tad bit unlucky at the end. Great game though!

Could you not have won there at the end you had 5 roads in hand(3:1 the sheep for the 5th brick) could you have circled the 3 brick then dropped two roads around the 6 wheat then one road up between the 4 brick and 9 sheep. does that give you the win or am i missing something asking this very respectfully and from a desire to get better at catan stand point

I believe the hand you are referring to was going to 9 roads. If you look at the turn before, he just dropped a road putting himself at 9. We would need to hit 10 roads to take it. So we almost had it

@@dandydrew I guess my question is if you completely circle a hex and then build road off it in two directions do they all count toward your longest road. On the bottom you have 5 roads down and 5 roads in hand. When you go for the VP pull at 26:31 in the video.

No you had the win in hand at 25:30 if you wrap the 3 brick and go in both directions for 10 total roads.

@@calebshort2169 no that would count. Longest road has to be a continuous road that doesn't double back on itself, so if you branch off in two separate directions it would just take whatever variation creates the longest continuous road.

I made the account about a year ago as a joke. Might not get me the best looks in game but we’re at least having fun on steam with it.
