I use corn kernels, sometimes. Light line and tackle, small hook and small split shot. Cover(hide) all of the hook, with one kernel corn. Always know what your shadow is doing, (how fast it"s moving), and where it's at. Can of cheap corn, will last you guys all day. Find a bend in the creek, where it's deeper. Put your corn up stream a ways. Then let it drift through the bend. Heat rest of corn up...eat with your mess of brook trout. Lemon pepper for the spice. Love all your videos. Thanks a bunch

Never been the outdoors type but after watching a number of your vids (this is probably like my 100th by now) it made me appreciate the little things we take for granted. Anyways I’m not gonna make this post about me but rather about the hard work you put in day in and day out to provide grade A content. As a viewer the least I can do is drop a LIKE 👍. Hopefully this will start a trend and inspire more people to show their appreciation. With that cheers

This is the best way to spend a day. Many days like this in my life, not in Canada, but hey, Texas is a great place to be. Bass, crappie, sun perch, catfish, turtles, craw-fish, cactus berries, yucca flowers, wild plums if you can beat the cardinals, even scored some wild grapes a few times, those are hard to get to though, always have to climb. Mesquite beans are super sweet also just kinda woody, lol

I'd trade almost anyone their environment for a week of mine! As outdoorsman, we make due with what we have and almost everywhere has good qualities if we take the time to look for them and enjoy them. Sounds like you have a lot of great stuff in your neck of the woods. If you haven't already, check out Bob Hansler, he's also in Texas...you would enjoy his content!

It's a new stretch that we discovered from using google maps and locating hints of white water. We found that some other people fished another section but there was no evidence of anyone fishing here. There's also a nice waterfall section just below here. I've been fishing the slow section and now this! That's what you get when you're not out trying to track down someone else's honey hole! I need to make a video about this!

Awesome video! Looks like you located a good holding spot for trout. Did you guys find all those different types of berries in the same area, or were they scattered throughout? I love finding raspberries in the bush. The other berries, like Saskatoon berries and chokecherries I can't seem to eat. Too bitter!
@TheWoodedBeardsman8 жыл бұрын
Very good question. We could say that they are roughly in the same habitat, but still within several miles of one another. So, if we didn't have a machine i.e. a vehicle, we would have burned several hundred more calories at least to collect them all. I didn't mind the Saskatoon, but the chokecherries I agree with, it does take some practice for sure. Keep watching the series, these easy pickings make an appearance! Blueberries also show up and we talk much about these differences. Ever tried chokecherry jam or fruit leather. Strained of their pits and skins, with lots of sugar, are quite good to eat! Not at all like the raw version!!!!

This was a fun video to watch on a rainy day. Circle hooks rather than J style hooks have worked great for me.
@TheWoodedBeardsman8 жыл бұрын
I just find the longer shank lets me thread a worm up higher. Heard good things about circle hooks on dead set lines. I've never tried them though.
@EbonKim8 жыл бұрын
I use both, each have their uses. Nightcrawlers definitely slide down on circle hooks after the first cast, so if presentation is important, that's a downside. The upside is, it sets the hook a lot better, especially in the mouth, which is great for catch and release.
@TheWoodedBeardsman8 жыл бұрын
Ebon Kim Makes sense. I'll keep my circle hooks for those dead set long lines when I fish for rainbows and overnight lines. Those long shanks work really well to hold a worm how i want them in the creeks.

Believe it or not, there are places in north eastern Nevada that look like this, less the variety of berries. We have elderberry & juniper which the latter is not really an eat off the tree berry. Lots of other edibles if you know what to look for. I've spent years enjoying high mountain lakes & creeks fly fishing so I really enjoyed this as my work life has me tied to the city. Thanks for sharing your beautiful part of this world.

Keen to try "Surviving" or at least trying too in the bush here in Australia. I'm only familiar with my local region but damn you guys got it all.. but we don't have to deal with bears so I guess there's that. Do you guys have much experience in completely different settings than say woodlands like this? Cheers.
@TheWoodedBeardsman8 жыл бұрын
CaptMorgasm Nope. I'd be done in Australia! Well I would have to learn as I went anyway, same as you here. .the ears really are not a worry. We,rarely bump into them and they always dart away really quickly. No snakes or spiders to worry about, which is probably more of a concern, but like bears here, maybe you don't worry too much about them?
@CaptMorgasm8 жыл бұрын
Australia gets a bad rep but as a partial bushman myself, working in the field the biggest concern is snakes/crocs (Thankfully no crocs where I'm from), maybe a funnel web spider/black widow if you're secluded enough. Due to lack of prey eyes some of the snakes here (Dugite,King Brown,Tiger) evolved some crazy toxic venom.. some species may have the same LD50 as say a cottonmouth for you boys but the difference is there is 2-3 times more venom per bite (again depending on the species) and thats what makes them particularly nasty. But yeah they're always a worry. Sharks aren't too bad. Scary as fuck but most species aren't interested. Gotta be careful when you spear fish, not to dwell in the water too long, get what you need and get out. But really when you think about people swim with sharks every day and have no idea, you don't going running with lions and.. maybe bears? ha i dont know.
@TheWoodedBeardsman8 жыл бұрын
We really don't have to worry too much about anything in our woods as we have few with venom and bears aren't an issue, but still, getting used to the climate, the terrain, the animals, the foods, etc. It would be really hard. Local knowledge is for sure helpful.
