Catch and Cook: VENOMOUS Rockfish off the ROCKS

I go explore new coastlines in Northern California in search for areas to fish for Lingcod, Cabezon, and venomous Rockfish. I find a beautiful rocky shore, where I climb down to fish. I end up catching and making fish tacos using a recipe I've never tried before.

I usually put a bead in between the loose weight and the hook/bait. For some reason in my mind I think it's better, and I think it makes a clicking noise and will attract fish. Not sure, but usually when I do that I'll hook up a couple times

You need to topshotyour braid with mono because doesnt matter how thick your braid is, jagged rocks will cut through like hot knife on butter.

There's a great GPS app called LeadNav that my brother helped developed for the Baja 1000. You can set it to record your route so that if you are going someplace remote, you can always find the way back by replaying the route back. You can also cache the maps to the device so that even if your cell signal get compromised you'll still have directions. You should probably check it out.

looks like a quill back rock fish.caught one about that size fishing coast guard pier in Monterey Ca.my first encounter with this fish and I managed to break off that longest dorsal deep under my thumb nail,yea,not an experience your likely to ever forget.

Shoo ta there is a difference between venom and poison, venom is located on the outside, in spines, or any sharp parts of the fish small enough to penetrate the skin. Poison is located within the fish, and will affect any consumers. So yeah, it would be a pretty “flavorful” death if you ate a poisonous fish.
