Not surprised the bluegill won, they are my favorite too! The bluegill are probably getting close to spawn now so try fishing near shore in 3 feet to 10 feet of water by structure like stumps and branches. Scout shorelines till you find spawning beds then back off 20 feet and start reeling them in. Good luck and looking forward to more taste tests!

From my experience fishing for crappie . The best bate we ever had was to cut the white tong out of the fish and put it on a med. sized hook. Drop it down and , fish on! The tong will catch a lot of fish before you need another. But by then you should have a good supply. I am going to look forward to fishing Lake Murry when I get there in SC. I'm Leaving Washington by end of September. See y-all there sometime.

The pine cones you found are ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) they’re cones are large with armored spikes facing down towards the bottom of the cone. Also to identify one check a branch if there is bundles of 2 and 3 needles it is for sure a ponderosa pine. Love the vids ❤
@Skj-otd Жыл бұрын
Awesome info!! I actually never knew that either.
@alexfarmer1113 Жыл бұрын
This is not ponderosa, I am a Forestry major and in my knowledge, it is a longleaf pine cone. Pitch cones can also reach substantial size. Ponderosa is found out West in drier, higher elevation forested ecosystems. Ponderosa is not found in the Carolina’s as of today.
@forestwolf60 Жыл бұрын
@@alexfarmer1113 forester here (20+ years of experience), you are correct. The large cones are longleaf pine & the smaller cones are loblolly pine. Ponderosa pine isn't naturally occurring in the South, albeit some have been planted as ornamentals.
@alexfarmer1113 Жыл бұрын
@@forestwolf60 For sure! Loblolly is predominant here in SC and most of NC east of Southern App. range. Loblolly is more common naturally than longleaf but both are common throughout the state. I really appreciate your addition to that, always a treat to hear from someone with greater experience!

Love the new bees. I started bee keeping 3 years ago with 1 hive now I have 4. I get them from mountain sweet honey. It's a great company. And I love it so much. I remember you had that swarm last year and I commented you should get some. Glad you finally did. Can't wait for updates. I will suggest raising your hive like another 10 inches or so doing the hive inspections the less you have to bend over the more comfortable you will be. And you should name it. JUST Beecause
@jessanddavidboham8014 Жыл бұрын
Now I think a good idea for what you should do is fry them all with breading on them and see which one is the best. I bet the bluegill will come out the best again. Maybe a second running to the crappie but why haven't you tried them fried in breading as a cook-off or taste type thing?

Be careful in saying they don’t sting. You’re right in saying they aren’t aggressive but sometimes you’ll go out there and they’ll be ornery and aggressive especially when there’s not a lot to forage. The bees will defend their colony and they will light you up if you aren’t careful. Especially being a new beekeeper it’s likely won’t have the best hive handling abilities while you learn and that will make them ornery as well. It’s great to see the youngsters involved but I’d recommend finding them some gear if they’re going to be standing by you during inspections. I love the videos and congrats on the bees!
@roberthutchison315 Жыл бұрын
That's cool. I was with my parents picking up bees in Buhl in 100s of hives, when I messed up and swatted a bee. All the hives started rumbling and they came pouring out. The panic on the bee keepers face told me ... RUN! So I ran, with a huge cloud of thousands of bees chasing me, some got in my hair and buzzed in my ear. I jumped in a pond. My older brother was dying laughing, mom screaming "RUN!" Didn't take one sting either. NEVER EVER EVER! Take a swat at a bee. They're almost always cool with people, and swatting never helps with bees.
