Our camping method for cooking fish was always to season or stuff the inside of the gutted fish. Wrap tightly a couple times in newspaper. Then wet the newspaper and put it on the grill, practically right in the fire. The wet newspaper won't burn. But when you pull it off removes the scales and skin. Having some sauce of some kind handy is always nice. I can't say it's my favorite way to eat fish, but for a campfire, certainly the easiest.
@beazleteats40314 жыл бұрын
Hi guys. Just a little fishing tip on spinning...throw in the lure, let it sink. Reel in with the rod at 90 degree angle to your body with the ROD TIP down near the surface of the water. That way when the fish strikes the lure, you hank the rod tip up hence locking the hooks in the fish's mouth. Golden rule...always keep the rod tip down nearly touching the water when reeling in. Tight lines and happy fishing.

I've mainly used just hand-line when fishing from a dinghy/rowboat...less fiddly and safer than having hooks flying by our eyes as lines are cast! (Note to Kika: you 'cast' a line - you don't 'throw' it!). Now it's lunchtime and I'm starving, having watched all this! Great video!
@antekwozniak41164 жыл бұрын
When taking the fish out of water don't reel the line to the very top. Leave about as much line as the lenght of your rod and grab the fish with one hand. Is much easier and primarily you don't risk breaking the rod( your method is not safe for the rod at all!). Cheers💪
@S1lentJoy4 жыл бұрын
I was going to comment exactly that. With a big fish you could even break your rod

@Colin Deal We can argue the point till the end of time but you don't need a scale to weigh little fish like that!!. If they stress your rod, its a toy rod!! I have fished b4!! In Europe we say fish as plural no matter what species. The ones caught in this episode were Pollock and Cod and they should have been filited for easy cooking on a fire. In the video they were just gutted and left whole. Takes much longer to cook.

My mouth was watering whilst I watched you prepare the fish! Here is a South African fisherman's way of cooking fish on an open fire: You don't need a grate and you take the fish, seasoned as you did or any other way and instead of wrapping it in tin foil, you wrap it in a whole newspaper. Take the wrapped fish and soak it in the sea and put the whole wet bundle straight into the fire. There will be lots of steam and you roll the bundle over from time to time. The newspaper is of course burning up. Now the final timing is critical as you remove your package just before the last few papers burn! Open the parcel and the skin sticks to the paper and you are left with beautiful moist fish which has effectively been steam cooked. Believe me this is a magic way of cooking fish. Delicious! Enjoy!

A trick we used when windsurfing or water skiing in cold water...before you hop into the water, you either take a hot shower and let hot water in or you pour hot water into the wetsuit through the neck hole. A wetsuit works by letting some water through and your body warms the water so when you start with hot water, it helps!

If you want to catch cod, you need to get a bigger lure that is a very shiny silver color. It could be in the shape of a small fish such as caplin. Don't cast your line so far away from the boat. Just let it drop about 5' away from the boat and let the lure sink to the bottom. Bring it up about 3' from the bottom and start moving the rod up and down (jigging). Keep doing that you get tired, reel in another 3 to 8' of line and jig again. Repeat this until the line is above the surface and drop the line back in. This is how it is done in Newfoundland and Labrador. We often use a Norwegian jigger for this. By the way that cod you caught is called a Tom Cod due to it's small size. A good size cod would be anything greater that 24" in length. One of the locals around here caught a 100lb cod a couple of weeks ago. Great video

One of the most popular ways to eat cod in Norway is to boil some water, with salt in it. When the water is boiling, put the cod in. If its small, just do it as filets, if its a large one, just cut it in parallel parts. When you have put the fish in, take it of the heat. You are not to boil the fish. When its all solid white and flaky, its finished. Served with boiled potato, boiled/steamed carrots and meltet butter with dill tips in it. Really good. Sorry about the bad description of how to cut the fish, English isn't my main language

Although as cool as it was as a 7 or 8 year old it was also a bit scary!
