Two summer, daytime sessions (recorded on 30.06.20 and 14.07.20) at Shellness, Isle of Sheppey (Kent, UK). Not having fished this shallow water venue before, I fished for whatever I could catch, rather than targeting specific species. The first trip was cut short due to weed problems, but resulted in a sizeable bass; the second fished well in to the ebb and resulted in a small mixed catch.

Great video again. The things I like are: lack of music, information about rigs, excellent locations, map references and dry sense of homour. 10/10.

I like the way you treat your fish when you release the under sized fish. I see to many sea anglers throwing fish back as though they are trash. This seem especially so with all the little whiting that come up the Medway at this time of the year

Love your videos Rod, very relaxing and informative.I was certain that you would get some flatties at this venue. I have never been there but it looked like a mecca for flounder. Nice bass btw and I would not be surprised if a 10lb plus bass was caught there. Looking forward to your next video, tight lines!!!

Thanks for watching and your kind words Jerry. Sheppy used to be good for flounders, but like many other venues, they have declined in number - will try again for them here in the winter months sometime. Odd decent bass can pop up out of the blue from a number of venues I fish - I think autumn gives you your best chance of a specimen.

Super upload as always Rod.Information and content at a premium .Quick question why when things are on slow side are you not tempted to use a third rod? Im only a novice sea angler fishing of the East coast of Yorkshire but I'm learning so much watching your videos..Anway can I just stay safe and keep sharing.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks @gazellis1961. Yes - can be a good idea to have your two main rods out long and a shorter scratching rod fished nearer in. However when there's lots of weed about and a prominent tidal pull, you can get in to all sorts of problems with lines crossing when weed drags your rigs out of position. I do sometimes fish three rods, especially if one or two of them have big baits on and I'm not expecting many bites on those. It all depends on the venue, conditions, target species and how much effort I feel like putting in at the time!

Hi Rod as usual a nice video, question - When you say at fair range, what distance are you implying
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Alan - for fair range, I usually mean over 80yds - unless the wind is from behind, or I've waded in some distance before casting. It sounds a bit vague and it is! If I was a carp angler, I'd probably use measuring sticks.

Just had an extremely enjoyable half an hour watching this video. Many thanks for filming your visit and sharing it. I fished Leysdown many moons ago but never quite got round to to Shellness. Think I'll have to give it a go sooner rather than later. Any reason why you didn't set one rod up for a possible Thornback Ray? I've also noticed that on occasions you keep your freshly dug Southend lugworm in sea water. Do you think they keep better this way? Can't wait for your next video...looks intriguing. Keep safe and keep healthy. Cheers. Ken
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support again Ken. I might be wrong, but the rays are usually caught off the shore in the spring and few and far between, especially during the day here in July; with perhaps the exception of Eastchurch Gap. I'm new to digging and storing bait, so may be doing it all wrong! However if I'm not using them straight away, I'm now keeping lugworms in trays / plastic containers with an inch or so of cold seawater in a bait fridge - I have managed to keep them in good condition this way for well over a week. I just transfer them to the buckets you see in the videos with fresh cold seawater for the journey and they stay OK for a few hours and sometimes all day if they don'tget too warm. If they are old / the water gets discoloured or too warm, I'll change it with fresh at the venue.
@kenhenley7599
@kenhenley7599 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply. Just wondered - Thornback Ray seem to be appearing everywhere and at odd times these days! I don't dig bait but next time I go fishing I might transfer my lugworm from the newspaper wraps to a bucket with fresh sea water and see how I get on. All the Best. Ken
