Very refreshing for a fishing channel to provide such accurate information on the mark fished. Shame other channels can't be so open.

Great vid as normal . A good session ,nice to see the sole but also to see the eels . When I was a kid we used to catch them regularly at the sea but over the last 20 yrs they have been far and few . Thanks for sharing . Regards carl

Great video from the old stamping ground of my teens in the 60's. Great the way you keep changing rigs and also great to see eels returning. I know they're not universally popular but do indicate water cleanliness.

Nice to see you local to us mick, me and the missus fished just up from your mark at Holland on Sunday evening , didn’t have a bite until it got dark, and we ended up getting 5 bass and 2 soles , beautiful warm summers evening , only left because of work on Monday 😭👍

Very enjoyable session Michael. Nice selection of fish and a really nice venue. I think that this would produce decent bass in the right conditions. You are a sole magnet Michael! Thank you so much for.
@rodsangleuk6283

Thanks again Jerry. I used to catch plenty of half decent bass, when there were wooden groynes at nearby Holland-on-Sea, by casting crab to the end of a groyne. I should really try that at the end of the rock fishtail groynes. On shore windy conditions would be better for them.

@@rodsangleuk6283 Thanks Michael, just a quick question. How do you find squid as bait?
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Essential to have it in winter; only really use it in small strips for bream in the summer, or for rays. Can catch decent smooth hounds on squid, if you can't get peeler crabs and on storm beaches (e'g. Chesil) it works for bass close in during a breeze - but I'd still prefer other baits.

Yes - but you have to be quite single minded to catch them and expect to have blank sessions. Although I do have a go, I generally prefer to catch something rather than nothing. I might target them in the autumn though! Thanks for watching again.

At least they didn't try to claim that I shouldn't be fishing where they wanted to walk! I've been fishing some busy beaches recently and have had to 'hold my ground' to some that feel more 'entitled' to use the beach than me! I avoid conflict, but would wish that some others would show more understanding. Thanks for watching Ryan and your considered observations.

Hi Mick. As I sat here drinking a cup of tea and eating a digestive biscuit, I thought to myself "O.K., I know it's a bit overcast but it's only the end of June and yet he still manages to fish a deserted, or as near as makes no difference deserted, beach during the day!" How do you do it? Please tell me. I don't like crowds, which is why I usually fish at night, but I would have a go at daytime fishing but for the crowds! Not a bad session at all and I can understand you being pleased with the 4 sole. You were lucky that the eels (ugh!) didn't wrap themselves around your line or bite through your snoods. Can't get over those 2 walkers who nearly walked into your line and didn't even say "thanks" when you moved your rod. Still, that's (some) folk for you. Another excellent video that, as usual, I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for putting it up. Stay healthy. Cheers. Ken

Well done Rod, I finally got my broadband sorted & now I haven't got time to go fishing due to work!! I'm not moaning though as I need to pay for my upcoming fishing sessions! Well done with the sole in this video & not blanking in your previous couple of videos, I know it's not child's play as I've had a couple of fruitless sessions of late, I realise the hard work that goes into consistently catching fish & also doing it for the camera, which brings with it another set of problems, so kudos to you for that, as always the last few videos have been immensely enjoyable & they are greatly appreciated so keep them coming, all the best & tight lines. P.S It was nice to bump into you & have a chat the other day!!

Many thanks for that Paul and yes it was good to have bumped in to you. I've had a couple of blanks recently fishing marks I hadn't tried before - I did get a few bites, but missed them there and trying to film those sessions probably contributed to not catching! Hope to see some sea fishing sessions from you soon.

Well done - your persistence in trying out different rigs, baits, distances paid off. Interesting that you debunked a theory of mine during this session - that once you catch an eel and the slime gets on your hook length, nothing other than more eels will touch it (even after you've wiped the slime off). I had several occasions where I caught no other species until I changed the snood. It was almost like all other fish are wary of eels and try to avoid them.
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian. I know it's easier said than done, but it's best if you can lip hook eels, unhook and release them before they get a chance to cover your hooklengths with slime. Too much on your hooklengths probably puts other fish off - certainly with coarse fishing I'd want to change hooklengths.

Are those eels the same as we get in freshwater? Or are they young confers? I thought common eels stayed only stayed in freshwater untill they went to sea to breed
@rodsangleuk6283
@rodsangleuk6283 3 жыл бұрын
I believe they are the same as the ones I'm catching in the Thames Estuary and when I'm coarse fishing venues like the Gloucester Canal - they seem to be on a revival this year. Someone might correct me, but I don't think they are mini congers. Thanks for watching and commenting again Kenneth.

Well hope so as have not caught a eel in fresh water for years now. Last one I caught was under the M2 bridge at Rochester in the tidal stretch
@rhino269
@rhino269 3 жыл бұрын
They’re the same as the eels you get in freshwater. Silver eels can tolerate both salt and fresh water which is why you sometimes find them in brackish water too. Last one I caught was whilst I was on holiday in an estuary in Devon but my dad used to catch them near Tilbury power station and my grandfather caught a decent one off of Southend pier many years ago. (It was big enough to warrant a short article in the Daily Mirror and they gave him a beach caster as well)

Funny though once upon a time if you put maggot on in the Medway you were plagued with bootlace eels. I have not caught a bootlace or any eel for years. Perhaps they have changed there habitat
@rhino269
@rhino269 3 жыл бұрын
@@kennethsmith2758 they will take anything if they’re hungry but usually the more mature fish normally prefer peeler crab or worm but do take fish baits. On certain parts of the Thames (such as Rainham, Purfleet, Grays etc) earthworm will catch them if you don’t have any rag or lug. Many a flounder caught on earthworm up that way too.
