A great bait, how to retrieve it (and other options to try), and where and why to use it, how to think about it, along with options of how to possibly expand the success - all in one video. I hope people appreciate just how much you packed into that 20 minutes. Exceptionally good info, Matt. Deeply grateful.

A lot of people miss it but single Colorado spinnerbaits are great bass killers in summer. They are a good all year bait. Smaller ones in silver in clear water bigger silver in colder clear water, and gold bladed versions in murky or muddy water. And black water silver blades are better all around. My favorite bait to throw is a spinnerbait a Texas rig and a top water( hula popper, tiny torpedo, (Zara spool for bigger bass), and scum frog. And for big bass and cold water a jig and uncle Josh #11 pork frog. I like smoke jig with black/blue pork in clear water or black or black brown with solid black in clear water also. I will also sometimes match the hatch on the color of the crawfish in the water I am fishing. But in early spring and fall I like to match the hatch on my spinnerbaits on size and color of the baitfish the bass are feeding on that particular day. A jerk bait is ok also.

Congrats on getting that first event behind you! Good showing considering you were dealing with 166,000 acres that you were fishing for the first time. Safe travels back to God's Country!

I love using spinnerbaits and use single and dual blade Colorado/ Indiana blades all the time. Strike King makes that Midnight Special that’s a single Colorado blade and has a rattle behind the head. That thing is money in muddy water or low light. I’ve caught hundreds of bass and pike on southern Champlain with them.
@krispyk.178611 ай бұрын
Do you put a trailer on that spinnerbait? I can’t seem to get any good bite patterns together in the north
@darrellgrant761511 ай бұрын
@@krispyk.1786 I never do on that one just because I don’t want the trailer to blunt any of the vibration and rattle. With that bait they either want nothing to do with it or they smash the hell out of it. I never seem to have a situation where they’re short striking it which is when I’d probably add some kind of trailer. I think in the situations I’m using it they’re keying off the vibration and sound vs a visual attraction.

I just got FFS. Excited to learn it and use it. Even more excited for future tech. It’s gonna get insane I think. Having said that I don’t think techniques for using lures and when to use them won’t go away really. I also think the vast majority of anglers don’t care about tourneys. I don’t at all. Never watch em and probably never will. But learning more about how to retrieve etc is still important.

I'm a fan of double-cupped Colorados similar to what came on the original C.C.Spinners. Muddy water I go with brass to match the water color so the flash is visible farther and not absorbed by the water color as would be with nickel. #6 for either a 3/8 or 1/2 oz.
