This catch n cook starts off with looking for bait. We don't find any along the mangroves, I need to figure out some better spots to get bait at. The Tavernier marina also had no live bait, except for shrimp, for sale.
We run offshore out of Tavernier creek and start running slightly south east to the islamorada humps. It's time to start offshore fishing! We drop our deep drop rig down on some bottom where I marked some fish. We are using cut blue runners for bait and quickly hook up. It's a red snapper! Dang season just ended for these! Or so I thought, it actually turns out that it's a yellow eye snapper. I could have kept it!
We keep on fishing and send down another deep drop rig. And almost just as fast catch a second yellow eye snapper. Since I thought they are not in season I didn't want to keep catching these fish so I ran a little north off the humps and started looking for action.
30 minutes of searching for fish go by until I marked some small spots on the sonar. We start vertical jigging and hook up. I catch a black fin tuna. Beata also catches a shark, that shark must have been hungry to go after a vertical jig!
We saw some dolphin and started chasing them instead of fishing. The girls love the dolphins. The flipper kind, not mahi mahi. It's now sunset time and we run home to make some awesome tuna fish tacos. We also eat lots of tuna raw dipped in soy sauce. You can't beat fresh fish the same day as your offshore fishing trip off key largo and islamorada. The Islamorada Humps

Turns out the snapper I caught deep dropping is actually a Yellow Eye Snapper and not a red snapper. They have no limits and I could have taken them home for dinner! I learn from my mistakes, that one won't happen again hah. Thanks for pointing that out guys

Hi...Paul here from South Africa and avid fisherman, angler, diver and all ocean related activity. Enjoy your videos. Just a quick question..are you allowed out past 1 mile with only 1 engine? Just curious. Here if you are out past 1 mile you need 2 engines...Cheers

Excellent job like always, Heiko! I enjoy watching your videos and do so regularly. I gotta know where you get your music.. Love it! All your vids bring the keys here when I can't be there. Fishing the keys isn't as easy as people think, so good work learning how and where to fish down there, you've accomplished a lot in your time posting. Don't let any comments get in the way of your real purpose here because most people, including myself, appreciate the time and effort it takes to put together all these videos. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Fish on!

South Florida Fishing Channel awesome Heiko. I hear you on the body pains.. Yet we all beg for more and go again and again! Gotta love it though. After guiding for 26 years I still "hobble" offshore whenever I can. Have a good one and be safe on the water buddy. Fish on, rock on!
