There’s clearly a story behind this video and it should be shared. It’s not just them singing a song. This is Karinya Chen. A 15 year old girl who had battled terminal bone cancer for 5 years. She was at “Hospice Austin” and had tickets to go see a Florence and the Machine concert. She couldn’t due to health concerns. But the hospice reached out to Florence and was able to explain the situation and Florence came to sing just to her. With that being said this day was clearly something very special and since unfortunately Karinya has passed away. These acts of kindness are what makes this world so nice to be in and makes us realize how precious not only life is but how important something as simple as music can be to us in times of need.

Music is a universal language that transcends culture, race, religion and breaks the barriers between us. It is something we all can feel and understand and connect to. Through it we find a common ground where we can be united in hope, love and harmony with one another. This intimate performance might just be the very best example of that.
@RainyRunningRiver6 жыл бұрын
Florace and the machine are banned in a few Islamic countries for being 'unislamic'. Same with Beyonce, and Cher to name a few. Music isnt some cure to hate as we put it on a pedestal. Its just sound waves we relate to real world feelings and emotions. Sorry
@4G63Tx6 жыл бұрын
That says something terrible about man’s religious beliefs though, not the power and transcendence of music. Anything that has the power to bring people together will always be seen as a threat by institutions, it always has been that way, and likely always will. And technically yes you are right, but its only sound waves if you’ve never been moved and stirred inside by good music. To me that proves it’s much more than just that.

I have watched this awesome video many times and have watched quite a few reactions to it. In my opinion there is one moment that nobody seems to recognize. At around 1 min 52 seconds. Karina Chen reaches out for her friend. Looking like she may be overwhelmed by what's going on. Florence immediately notices and sits down beside the young lady and puts her mind at ease. From then on Karinya completely relaxes and enjoys the rest of the performance. It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life.

Thank you for your compassion & love for others and keeping it real and pushing it forward. It meant so much to her you could tell. I also love This song. I am elder I've lived such a full life. So next time I have a moment of self pity I will be thinking of Karinya Chen and how mighty she was at only 10 to take on the battle she did for a entire 5 years. God be with her family and her friends may she be singing and dancing in the heavens.

The video is the story of a day in the life of Angel Karinya; being filmed by her loving Mom. (channel owner) Florence learnt they had tickets for her concert. However, Angel Karinya battling cancer fell too ill to attend. So the beautiful Florence brought the concert to them! Yes those dog days are over!

I have a handful of videos that I watch when I need to get my head on straight and get some humility and perspective. This is one of them. Yes Florence is lovely and incredible here - but Karinya’s light also shines so gloriously. You can feel that she was a beautiful young woman and it is impossible to accept that she had to fight cancer and die so young. And yet, we all stand skin to skin with the shadow of death every day, though we like to tell ourselves “not me.” Deep down, we know we are always on the razors edge and that someday, it will come. And I don’t know if it’s worse to fight the long battle she fought - or to die suddenly having never had the chance to come to terms with death, get Your affairs in order, and say your precious goodbyes. What I know is that this video and the incredible people who made it happen, her hospice in Austin, her friends and family, and yes Florence and her crew, has brought Karinya and her light and her fight into the hearts of so many. She will stand as a beacon to thousands, even millions, for always. A beautiful frail reminder of our own mortality and how precious each moment is. Strip away what doesn’t matter. Forgive. Expand and widen your circle of love so that you have it to hold you up when YOU are frail, let go of your petty hatreds and focus your energy on those who love you back - adore them, revel in them, take time for silence and nature and yoga and walking - as well as time for adventure and fun and doing what scares you! And do that one thing you’ve been meaning to do to make the world better. Start today. Stop making excuses and take the first three small steps so that when your time comes, you’ve left a small legacy - you’ve made the world just a little bit better by being in it. Expand your kindness. Get crazy generous and compassionate. Don’t get bitter. Practice your gratitude. Breathe in your life while you are still fortunate enough to have breath in your lungs. 💛. Thank your Karinya for sharing your vulnerable time with so many of us. Your light will not soon be forgotten. You mattered. We honor your beautiful smile, and your short but important life. May the good people who knew you wrap your mother up when she needs it. For no one could ever touch the pain of a mother who loses her precious baby girl. My deepest love to her and to you and to Florence and to everyone who watches this video. Kindness is the way. It is the only way. 💛
