I have related to Drax so much through this series. It feels dopey, and I can recognize that; but it really does hit me hard. I lost my family, not in the deadly fashion Drax did, and not by any choice or actions on my part; regardless, I went from years and years of being a part of a "we" to only being "me." Without going into uneeded details, the immediate aftermath of that essentially cast me from my home and sent me across the country. I found myself 900 miles from everything I'd ever known and loved, and, for the first time in my life, completely alone. That first Christmas in that state led me to a Marvel movie binge where I revisited the first 2 guardian movies. I had seen them both in theaters, and thoroughly enjoyed them; but, in this situation, I saw the writing, and particularly Drax, in a while new light. Fast forward a few years and I had clawed myself back to a place where I was able to at least move back home and be back around a few people who is loved and cared for. But I was not the same. The loss of my family, my kids, compounded by the distance and isolation of the pandemic, where even the small reprieve of a couple nights out to socialize was stripped away. That all eventually caught up to me, and I found myself unrecognizable. I had become a detroyer: of myself. To just get back home, and then see the 3rd and final act of this amazing arc: it hit me like a ton of bricks. I related so strongly with that character, but could never fully pin down why. I knew it wasn't just the superficial connection of family loss. Sure, that was a part of it, but there was still something else under the surface that I just couldn't quite grasp. Then, when Nebula told Drax that she saw who he was. That he was never meant to be this thing he'd become, that he was never meant to be a destroyer: but meant to be a father...I lost it. That was it, that internal war I had connected to all this time but simply couldn't convey. I was never meant to be this sad, cynical, negative, angry shell of a man I'd become. I was meant to be a father. And that was taken from me. I couldn't believe the emotial nuance i was seeing come to fruition in front of me. I wish seeing that display of beautifully vulnerability was the launching pad to my comeback; unfortunately, real life isn't like the movies. I'm still waiting for the re-emergence of the chance to be who I was meant to be and overcome that which circumstance was allowed to define. But one thing is for sure, I'll never forget seeing such a genuine, insightful, and caring portrayal of something only truly be relatable by so few.

Drax - Forgoing his ways of violence and rage to becoming a father again Mantis - Finally taking the opportunity to discover something for herself after only being a helper to others Gamora - Free of Thanos and finds people who care for and support her Nebula - One of the most damaged characters in history able to find peace and give people like her what she never had Peter - Is able to move on from what he lost and attempting to make the remaining time with his family worth it Rocket - Someone who was only created as a tool so that "greater" beings could be made afterwards is now the leader of the guardians. One thing I appreciate about the final film of the series is that it didn't focus on mending Peter and Gamora's relationship. Instead, it aimed at resolving some deeper issues for the characters. It focused on familial love rather than romantic love and an overarching theme of finding a home or finding yourself. That's why each character conclusion is so satisfying. They each come to their own realizations and face the challenges that they've probably been avoiding their whole lives.
@tommycoe23339 ай бұрын
I agree. And I would add it shows that not everything is fixable. You just do the best with what you have been given. No one's situation was fixed, they just accepted their new realities. I liked this ending because it’s sad but not in a way that’s downer because of a major character death or what not. This movie was about new beginnings finding your own wings and starting a new path. Rocket literally refused death because he knew he had a purpose to bring the team together to face his past. Star lord was able to move on from gamora’s death and realize he needs to self reflect on himself. Drax learned that he doesn’t have to be a destroyer and it’s okay to let some of your fun dad side out. So on and so forth. The song “dog days are over.” Is about leaving your old home behind and being sad about it but generous of where life takes you and that fits this ending perfectly. Just seeing the characters who are now broken up and no longer the guardians once knew still celebrate being alive and new opportunities and being in the moment dancing is a perfect end to the trilogy. Guardians 3 was such a great ending and honestly I’m fine if this is the end of these characters. It was a perfect one

The old Gamora would’ve loved dancing there with her family. This feels like their proper goodbye to her. Hopefully the new one will be happy with whatever path is for her, but at least she knows she has people who’s got her back.

A perfect ending to a movie trilogy that truly did not need the MCU to survive. It was a masterpiece of its own. Thank you, Mr. James Gunn.

Excellent ending, loved Guardians of the Galaxy 3, we got to say goodbye to all these amazing characters we had been watching for a decade, it wrapped up thier arcs perfectly, Drax and Mantis waving goodbye gets me emotional each time. Beautiful ending sequence, the choice of using the “Dog days are Over” song was great, such a feel good ending ❤

Man this scene really does make me tear up no matter how many times I watch it. The GOTG were one of my first introductions to comics as a kid and I still remember how excited 14 year old me was when the first movie came out. James Gunn really managed to take a group of characters hardly anyone had ever heard of and turned them into the MCU's best characters. Will always love this trilogy.

genuinely might be the best ending to an mcu film... ever ? it capped off the guardians films in a truly wonderful (and in character with the previous films, _of course_ the trilogy well-known for incredible soundtracks and a dance-off in the middle of the final battle of the first film would end with some type of dance party) way, all of them alive, maybe not happy, but on their way there, concluded character arcs, but also left room for others to continue growing. and to echo the sentiment of another commenter, but is something i've felt since my own first viewing, it's just really cathartic. a really cathartic ending to a good movie and a wonderful trilogy

I don't cry from movies often. This got the ugliest tears from me, but with a smile. Not a single Guardian had to die to get that reaction either. That's amazing. I’m so excited for what Gunn will do for DC.

I think the Guardians are the best thing the MCU ever came up with (I mean adapted into movies). They are the best films stand alone films, best soundtracks, best character arcs and best directed films. One is just an absolute fun fest, Two is a worthy sequel, Three is just an emotional rollercoaster

This here was the final ending of the mcu as far as im concerned. Endgame was the conclusion then no way home, multiverse of madness, love and thunder were the epilogue ending with this perfect finale. I know most people dont like love and thunder or multiverse of madness but i think they played an important part in the "epilogue" to the infinity saga. Thor was the last original avenger he needed his ending doctor strange has been around long enough that he had to feature but that film also serves as the reminder that life goes on while also servicing the characters long history in the infinity saga. Then guardians wraps up the last original characters we needed to say good bye too

Rocket found peace, nebula found herself, mantis is starting her own path, drax found his girls to father, groot is happy and complete, gamora is with her family, and Peter is back on earth reunited with his grandfather. What a perfect ending to a trilogy and I love that no one had to die, yet the all lived and came full circle. This wasn’t a closing or an ending to a story and its characters, it was a proper goodbye to the story teller, letting his creations be happy finally. The real creator, not the high evolutionary… James Gunn himself. Such a good movie it didn’t even feel as long as the run time was. His best movie yet. If he can bring this story telling to the DCEU, I have no doubt in his artwork and visionary

I'll admit I bawled watching Peter's grandpa hug him seeing this in the theater. He thought his grandfather was either dead or wouldn't want him anymore and to see him react like that to Peter being alive all these years is pure James Gunn knowing how to kick audiences in the gut emotionally. He does this repeatedly with great writing and characters yet people are seriously doubting his ability to tackle Superman? I think Gunn may be the only person to give us an actual Superman story anymore.
