@@AlexDMast Possibly, there is a material that can be pulled into a spring and will expand/contract with a current run through it, but it might not be strong enough to pull all of the wing material. Getting a long enough wingspan might also be an issue, but if it was folded in on itself it could expand as wide as a hang glider which would allow it to glide

If you ever revisit this, you could use a camera looking at a backdrop to see the laser and get much higher framerates than the several FPS from the spinning photodiodes. You can also manually do better control input to the motor drives that include the feed forwards for torque to compensate for the large mass of everything so it doesn’t overshoot as much.

Paintball ref here- that paintball gun should not be above 300 feet per second (fps), most places dont allow it to go over 280fps. Your buddy probably mistook the FPS for mph, but the max, 300fps, is roughly 204mph. Great video though!

Whenever doing ballistics, I would say its quite important to realize that the faster an object is moving, the more solid a collision object is seen. For example, you used foam, to the bullet, that foam is just an easily cuttable solid with 0 compression. The material around the bullet just isnt moving fast enough to be able to comply before the bullet tears through it (by moving fast enough I mean if it were inside the same relative velocity, like for instance the world rotates quickly but we dont feel it because so are we). Kevlar is effective because its a very strong material (to cut/shear forces) while also compliant (and gets stronger as it stretches).
