Another great video. I not only get my entertainment value from watching those rods go down and you catching fish.....I also get reminded to step up my work ethic......which you convey in your intro as to what you’re doing and why you’re fishing where you do. It’s obvious you do the work to get the results. The older I get the more I need reminding to step up my game.

Ya man I've always sed fishing is like golf and snagging is like football it's a contact spot in Oklahoma the best time to snag is in April when there running you may try to find out when the run where u live and find a low water dam when there water going
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
We can only snag one month out of the year. The rest of the time it is off limits. It is usually late April through May here when they make their run upriver. I admire the people who can go out there after them every day. I would need physical therapy if I went more than once a season lol.

Hey Justin! Thx for another fun video. I love it when that rod tip heads south. I know I'm probably going to sound like an idiot,but do you ever try the shallower creeks where bait fish might head to when it gets cold or when it warms up after a cold spell,do you ever look for schools of bait fish when fishing? And speaking of which,I know Skip jack is king when it comes to bait but wouldn't gizzard shad be a good alternative when SJ and white bass are scarce. I have caught my best two fish here in Texas recently in shallow water(10-15 ft.) after a slight warm up. A 65# on Dec. 29 and a 47# just this last Friday both on a medium shad head and off the bank. Of course I realize that it may be apples and oranges because I'm fishing reservoirs. I await enlightenment. Thx!
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have been hitting the backwater areas recently as the main channel water temps have dropped. They often tend to draw some bigger fish this time of year. I especially like to anchor in the creek mouths to catch them coming in and going out of the creeks. As for the gizzard shad, I like to use them but I hate to catch them. Throwing a cast net in the kayak is a hassle especially with my camera mounts and everything else to get in the way.
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
And congrats on those big fish! Those were some great fish you caught.

Nice fish !! Question when suspending if there is a stretch when there is only a few (maybe 2-4) feet deeper difference in depth would you adjust or suspend a few feet higher off the bottom for that stretch of water? Awesome video once again 👊🏻
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff! I usually don’t adjust my baits when dropping off into deeper depths until they are more than 5 feet off the bottom unless it’s a day where fish are inactive and I expect them to be tight to the bottom. If I am in an area that has an up and down type bottom like you are describing, I usually set my baits just high enough to prevent them from dragging when the bottom comes up.

Are you still using snell knot? Thanks for posting these videos!
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
No, I switched back to a clinch knot when I changed hooks. The team catfish hooks I am using now don’t have an offset eye like the gamakatsu hooks I used to use so there is no need for a snell.

How does your kayak handle the barge waves ?

The barge waves aren’t bad. It’s the houseboats and wake boat waves that give me fits. The kayak handles them well though.

And i just got to the part where you say, watch the questions on the sinker hahha. Typed to fast for my own good
@mychalboose54705 жыл бұрын
Better question to pose for you. You still like the knocker rig over the old school Carolina rig. I completely agree with the being able to know exactly where it is just wondering if you still think that they hid them just as often with the Sinker being next to the hook
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
I do still like the knocker rig over the Carolina rig for suspend fishing while drifting and trolling. It really helps keep the bait down in the wind which always seems to be a factor. I don’t think the fish care about the sinker being above the hook. I haven’t noticed any difference in catch rates. I have been using a Carolina rig for suspended baits while anchor fishing though. The wind isn’t a factor when anchored down so I don’t see a need for the knocker rig in that situation.

Let,s see if this rhyme,s.Im not a stinker ,so I chose a red sinker.No ,that didn,t sound quite right..Hmm....here goe,s again.That Justin is a right fart thinker,that,s why he chose the pretty red sinker.Excuse my mistake,i meant right smart thinker..........You fishing rascal you.............I saw a man fishing last year for hour,s, before he hooked into a good fish,and you never seen anyone try to horse one in as fast as he did.His line snapped and I told him real smart.You spent hour,s trying to get one on your line, but you expect to land him in under a minute,serve,s you right..........Nice trip you had.Iv,e caught some chunky flathead.s anchor fishing in the mouth,s of those creek,s at night.i have never seen one boat night fishing in that section of the river while I was there.
@KayakCatfish5 жыл бұрын
Haha! Your rhymes never fail to impress. I plan on doing a lot more anchor fishing in the coming year to specifically target flatheads. I never see any other catfishermen on that stretch of river either. I don’t even see any boats through there after dark.
