Wow. That is such a weird concept to me, that as a student, you would cheat on a Mastercam homework assignment. When I was taking Mcam courses in college, I would make sure to find any other possible methods to perform a particular task in Mastercam, in addition to what the instructor demonstrated to us in lecture. I would make sure to try everything, all the buttons and options, to ask all the dumb questions I could come up with about a process. Because I wanted to be efficient and prepared to deal with any modeling/programming issue I may encounter on the job, and later when I run my own shop. I knew that to even deserve being called a cnc programmer, at the minimum I have to be confident with all the basics of the software. If you have to cheat, you're doing it wrong, this field is not for you. I mean this stuff may be very time consuming to learn for the first time, but once you've tinkered with it long enough, you'll know it by heart and it won't be difficult at all. For weed smokers though, there may be too much nuance to keep track of in Mastercam, so good luck with that. You do need a functional brain and memory to learn and make any progress.

Great video, Mike. Since you talked about config at the end I thought of an idea for a new video. How about showing how to change all the defaults and then saving the config to a USB so the student can use any computer. Another thing I've shown my students how to do is export tool paths so they can import into a new file and not need to reinvent the wheel every time.

Both great video ideas, thanks!

Kevin I also teach my students how to create a tool library, export ops, configure file of MC how to do basic post changes and have it all saved all to a USB. It works pretty well since the students are never on the same computer during class.

Having a library of saved toolpaths is a huge time saver. I have a bunch saved up with the the tool, wear, lead/out, cut parameters all set. Import and select new geometry and tweek if needed.

Before I started school for Precision Machining I thought I'd get ahead and pirate a copy of MC2019. My school was still using 2017 at the time. Well when I wanted to try 2022 some years later I couldn't download the demo. After a week of errors I called tech support and turns out there's a .sys file that gets embedded in your directory so even if you format your computer it's still there preventing you from installing. I mean the difference is being able to post or not had I known that I would have just downloaded the 2019 demo haha

They have a lot of tools to catch pirates!

I thought I had a video up coving how to select non standard editors in Mastercam, but I guess I don't. Put that one on the list! Basically, in your Config on the Start/Exit page, under the Editor pulldown select OTHER. When you do you'll be taken to the windows browse menu. Now just point to the exe of the program you want to select. For Notepad++ this is typically located in the C:\Program Files\Notepad++ folder, select notepad++.exe there and then click Open.

The last one about the NC name is easy to change but being a student they may not know how.

Its not a difficult one to get around but another speed bump to put in their way. Anything that makes cheating more work ends up making doing the work the easier option.

is there a way for my professor to find out i’ve cheated, if i transfer my friend’s file to my computer and change a couple of dimensions?
@CamInstructor2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. You'll have the same time stamps in your files. Why do you want to cheat though? What good does it do you? If you signed up for the class, do you not want to learn the content?
@shanmahan88442 жыл бұрын
@@CamInstructor i dont want to cheat, do you have a set of tutorials i can go through to learn the basics? i’m on the verge of failing the course

Thats a good conversation to have with your instructor. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you out.

Is it possible to see how much time has been spent on a project?
@CamInstructor3 жыл бұрын
You could use the info in that long data sheet shown in the video but there would be too many variables for it to be reliable. Are you trying to run a timed test? Or just curious of the amount of time spent on a file?
