Long time surf fisherman from South Carolina here. I just found your channel and have really enjoyed it so far ! I am NOT a fan of fighting big rays but I do enjoy a shark battle. I have found that a 6-10 inch leader of light kingfish wire or the flexible wire that you can tie knots with greatly increases your catch rate with sharks. It doesn't prevent all the cutoffs but does help a lot if you are looking for a good tussle. Keep it up man, great stuff !

Matt or anyone , I want to start surf fishing for pompano , whiting , maybe a snook or red if they’re around .. what length rod is recommended .. I really would prefer nothing to heavy or ove 8 to 9 feet . Thx for y’all’s advice

Have you ever tried pieces of calamari for whiting? I have found that it brings in the bigger whiting and also it’s harder for them to steal the calamari than it is the shrimp.
