Catching Kokanee on 3D Printed Lures

A follower printed some Kokanee lures in his garage using a 3D printer. I decided to give them a swim and see how the Kokanee felt about them.

Since discovering these last January, I’ve personally used them in Chelan, Riffe, Roosevelt, Banks, Rimrock, and a few smaller lakes. The Old Goat Lures have always caught fish. Kokanee, trout, landlocked coho and a few spiny ray species. Not sure how I’ve missed this video. Well done Tyler

When I lived in Tacoma, I used to troll for Kokanee on American Lake with a wedding ring tipped with a maggot. Don't know if that would work here though.

I grew up fishing lake meridian with lake trolls and night crawlers on wedding ring spinners and we'd limit on kokanee. Perhaps the better question to ask is how effective is a wedding ring and lake troll gear compared to some of the newer methods like a pauliana peak dodger behind a micro hoochie tipped with corn? Which rig will out perform the other? If you're having fun it doesnt matter, if you're limiting it doesnt matter, sometimes the fleshing out of a hypothesis is as much fun as the fishing itself.

This things work!! We use them on lake sammamish for cutthroat... add a little chunk of worm... fish on!!!

Now that you have been fishing out of the old town for awhile do you find you can still peddle the pdl as long as you could a hobie?

what is your actual rig set up like? I'm new to kokanee. Youre running some kind of weight or something, then a dodger and leader with lure right? What sort of set up would I need for a manual downrigger type set up? Did you use shoepeg corn and maggots or what?

Tyler, is it just a habit of being in a leg drive kayak but I have to ask why you still pedal forward while reeling in a fish? The last fish of the day when the other rod was not set back yet is what I am referencing to.

Helps to maintain pressure on the fish and they are less likely to throw the hook.

Did you use the pre-tied leader length or shorten them to a certain length?

Great video! I have two questions. What type of rods are you using. My Kokanee rods are too limber to use the droppers weights. What brand are your pole holders. The look really easy to use and you rods look very secure

i've been using the old goats for salmon fishing for the past 3 years. they work well and are a great multispecies lure but I just don't trust them on big fish. I've lost two large chinook to bent hooks and I've had the lures break from a chomp. the action on the lures is legit though

I always re rig mine. I use tandem tied big river hooks and use flurocarbon leader. And I also get rid of all the swivels and extras I don't like. Basically I just use the lure and the rest i toss and re rig with my own preference

@@395glen Agreed. Weird to cheap out on the hardware especially when the maker advertises it for saltwater. I just rerig with a sampo and a single big river bait or stainless mustad siwash. I know tandem is great but I dont like the damage to fish when in mark selective fisheries.
