Any reel that can hold the line u want to use. I recommend the black max for Baitcaster but for spinning the Sedona shimano is good. (Check description) and for rod any med or med heavy will do.

@Ricardo Romero What test pound your line and leader ? You were using a lure ? Back in the 1960’s and ‘70’s most my friends and I only used 15-25 lb mono. A 40 pounder if lip or mouth hooked would take at least 20 minutes or even more . But if bait was swallowed sometimes they wouldnt fight but 5-10 minutes . Fish are kind of like humans in the sense some fight like hell and others dont .
