Some of my favorite fishing memories are fishing winter blackmouth in the Central Sound. Back in the day, we would mooch cut plug herring, 2 oz. banana weight, and a steelhead rod. Great fun!

Any Chinook can become a "resident " in Puget Sound it isnt necessarily the product of a special hatchery program. The size of the salmon, temperature of Puget Sound, and abundance of food are all determining factors that create Blackmouth.

Like the skipper said, they have a distinctive smell!!! I would tell my friends if they weren’t sure what species they caught to just take a whiff and you will know! My daughter loves that smell!!!! She didn’t join me one morning for spring king fishing and I caught a nice 20 plus and she was still sleeping when I got home. I woke her up by putting my fingers under her nose and she woke up fast and said “how big!” My wife just looks at us and said we were weird.

I’ve been tempting fate by using heavy kokanee gear for the smaller resident coho and blackmouth. One day, it’s gonna bite me in the ass. But a 3# rocket on a 6-12# koke rod is fun as hell.
@garfoonga17 ай бұрын
You do know salmon usually die after a hard fight right? Even if you hold it steady in the water for it to "regain its strength". Usually it just swims off to die somewhere. Dont put your rod in the water unless you intend to eat what you catch. Catch and release is just pointless and contributes to a lot of fish death and pollution.

@@joesutherland225 kinda sorta. Its new ownership and the province gave net farms another six years extension. On top of that there was that massive breach of 20,000 back in 2018, and then the company basically refused to ensure they dont infest the lake further. That lake will be full of triploids for a long time.

You are missing out !!Raw, ikejime method for bleeding them out. Turns a $25 filet, into a $200 filet. In part, that's why tuna caught by the Japanese get $250k for a 800lb bluefin vs English $15-20k max for the same fish/quality. I absolutely love this content, great videeo once again Addicts.
@garfoonga17 ай бұрын
Not true. The waters and season are the main drivers in price aside from overall quality of the fish. Ikejime is a fine method, but its no different than ripping the gill out by hand and hanging them.
