I started fly fishing for carp in the Mighty Mo in the early '80s. I worked for a tackle store in Great Falls and after work we'd have a ball catching them. I've caught them all over the world now, but those MT carp started it all.

Caught my first carp on the fly today.. what a rush. That beast and I fought for 10 or more minutes before I could net him and then when i release him, he still had enough power to push away out of my hand! Challenging and good fun fish.

I remember when I was little my uncle telling me a story of when I hooked a monster carp and fought it for 30min. They really are beasts! I have yet to land one on the fly, they are so unbelievably picky and spooky. I've thrown everything at them and not a bite. I've seen swarms of them rising in a spot and I threw 10-12 different fly patterns directly at them and they act as if it didn't even exist! I can't wait to hook one! Been chasing them all summer and even without hooking one it's been a rush!

Excelente video Todd, aquí en Neuquén (tierra de grandes truchas marrones), Argentina, en la zona del río Limay inferior y río Neuquén inferior, estan las carpas desde hace 25 o 30 años, pero recién ahora se las esta pescando deportivamente con mosca, muchos pescadores con mosca las desprecian debido a que endiosan las Truchas y ven en la Carpa a un competidor que puede terminar con los salmónidos, pero de a poco crece la cantidad de aficionados que descubren las cualidades de esta especie. Me encantaron los dos videos el Carpology 1 y 2, saludos!!

Honestly I think carp are more of a sport fish or game fish than largemouth will ever be. They get bigger, fight harder, and can be a true challenge to catch.

It's wild how quickly my mind swept from "eww carp" to "what an amazing fish" after being taken probably 40 yards into my backing and getting a good up-close experience on my first fish. They instantly became one of my favorite fish to target.
