Actually, I believe John Mulaney and Quest Love were playing catchphrase, while Jimmy Fallon and Jennifer Garner were playing goddamn charades. The point of the game is that you use your words like an adult, which is why Mulaney, being a stand up comic, was so good at it. Not that any of this matters because it's just a late night talk show, but Jimmy and Jennifer won because that's not how you fucking play catchphrase. Haha

That's why I love catchphrase! It's like a combination of charades and Taboo. You can do whatever you want, including actions, except for say the words on the screen. John Mulaney was very smart in all the things he said, but he took a long time to get to the answers! That said, it was bad luck that it buzzed on him both times. Fun game.

So here's a lesson in how to be an adult in the technological era. I was about to lambaste you eagerly on how catchphrase should be about the effectiveness of articulating an object or concept verbally. Then I was going to wax philosophic about how the art of verbal abstract communication is lost on the generation of pop culture, all to satiate my need to self actualize through pseudo journalistic, pseudo philosophical exposition. Then I got a wild hair and decided to look up the objective rules of catchphrase for reference instead of just asserting the rules that I felt good about. Turns out gestures are totally endorsed and legitimate according to the official rules of catchphrase. Don't I feel silly. I started with a false premise and got all up in arms over nothing. Now I don't discount the things that I just said about the general lack of proclivity to communicate a complex concept or idea, but I'm glad I didn't forward my notions on loose footing and inaccuracy. Learn the facts, and then decide. And if someone as super cool and positive as carlos722 says something so genuinely and so intelligently, don't automatically discount them to forward your own agenda. Well said Carlos numbers man.
