Category 7 CSW12-500D2 XMAX 12" Dual 2Ω 500w Subwoofer - T/S Parameters

Here's a very popular, yet, another undocumented car subwoofer from Category 7 at your local disposal. As some will theoretically says these subwoofers were underrated at 500w RMS but can blast open at 1400w peak. Let's find out.
Category 7 or C7 as their trademark logo, a locally marketed car audio components brand. Overall build feels and looks durable and efficient. They cost very reasonable too. The only downside is that these subwoofers do not come with a user's manual or any documentation in its packaging nor any website information. So, in this particular video, we are going to unbox and measure all the thiele/small parameters of Category 7 CSW12-500D2 XMAS. A very in-demand 12" car subwoofer in the local market for professional and amateur car audio installers alike. Available in dual 2 or 4 Ohms configurations.
00:10 - Unboxing the product.
01:10 - Preparing Dayton Audio DATS v3 and plugging in to PC.
01:50 - Individual voice coil parameters measured.
02:10 - Wiring the coils in parallel.
02:25 - Parallel and General parameters measured.
02:35 - Measuring subwoofer piston from edge to edge. This data will be used together with the added mass in obtaining Vas, Mms, and SPL.
03:10 - Vas, Mms and SPL in every coil configuration is now obtained.
03:50 - Finally, wire the coils in series and click that impedance sweep button!
04:00 - All data is now completely documented.
You can now "properly" design boxes and enclosures for these very popular 12 inch subwoofer for any application. Be it for car or for even home theater sound systems.
I hope you may find this video very informative and I hope you design subwoofer boxes properly by calculating proper data using speaker box programs like WinISD, BassBox Pro, Bassta or even the very basic Box Port Design 2.2 free for Windows!

I inputted your numbers into a quick and dirty online enclosure calculator and the results were an f3 of 17.99Hz in a 3.49 cub. foot Butterworth B4 ported box. That sub goes low!!! Will try WinISD later and see if I get the same results. Really hoping you get a chance to derive TSP on a C7 CSW15 500 XMAX. I’m seriously considering them after seeing what the 12” XMAX can do! And I do hope that the general public will finally learn how to design and build enclosures properly because there are only a few who can. 😂 And yes, I am currently building a box for this sub and having an F3 of 25.94Hz in a 2.35 cubes slot port box.😎

Hello brother, we have a lot in common, I handle the Data V3 with the same signature, and I also calculate I manufacture speakers, I have doubts about the parameter measurement process, I hope you can solve my doubts, I have investigated and before using the Dats it is required of the (break it) of the subwoofer loosen the suspension or have it working for at least 8 hours so as not to have false measurements, another point that I observed in your video was that you measured the Vas with metal objects, this affects the measurement since they generate certain magnetism when placing them in the center of the cone, and the elevation of the sub woofer, it is important to leave the sub raised and that the air flows under the coil, and finally, how did you get the Xmax, where could you get that data from? ... thanks Bro for your videos continue with your dedication I find them relaxing and educational ... greetings.

Hello Mariano. Thanks for pointing out the metal weights being affected by the magnet. I will try to use not metals and see the difference soon. Don't worry about the speakers venting when being tested. I tilt the speakers and have to put something so venting is promoted when running impedance sweeps. For me I'd like to see the values and parameters of a brand new speaker straight out of the box instead of breaking it in first. No, I haven't tested Xmax. And don't know any methods of testing xmax. It's just the brand trademarks "Xmax" of this particular product.

Yes polarity is very significant in any circuit. You will know your polarity through the speaker's cone direction. Or you can use polarity tester.
