What you say is so true, I owned a 1700 crossflow many years ago which only had 135bhp. The advantage of the "reasonably" powered 7's is that you can push them to their limit. A friend of mine had one with 210bhp and we used to go for days out and swap over for an hour. I found myself holding back on the right pedal in his. Plus the financial aspect his cost not far short of twice mine. My car was 8 years old when I bought it and in nearly 5 years I lost under £500. Don't feel you have to have a 620R they are all fun and you don't need to win the lottery. As I have always said, the most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on.

My Crossflow (with 143bhp) is 27 years old but I've had more fun driving it than all the Porsche and Ferrari I've owned in the past 35 years...(about 15 cars)

Hi Dan, great review. I’m seriously considering getting my first Caterham. Price wise I can’t afford the 420 or 620 so can I ask if you think spending a little extra and getting the 360 with the 2 litre Zetec is the one to have? Appreciate any advice buddy. Thank you.

Caterham don't use the Zetec engine. This was/is a common DIY swap from the Crossflow because of the exhaust side and gearbox match. Caterham now use Sigma 1.6 and Duratec 2.0/2.2 engines. You don't need more than 300bhp/tonne on the road. Trust me - my daily is a 170bhp Zetec 1.8 Caterham...

that's a fairly new event, no? anyway, many experts criticized the 6 speed ‘box and preferred the 5 (which i kinda agree with).

I'm very curious about these because in every computer game I have played with them, include simcade and full sims, these are just the best cars to drive bar none. It's been universal for every game I've played with them since the original xbox. I can only assume, it is some reflection of reality. Now I am wondering... how practical is it to own one?
