I don't understand all the hate for the owner as a way to justify a few dislikes. The dude's clearly not american and compared to Matt who is grinning from ear to ear like an excited kid (which isn't a bad thing, its lovely to see people excited over a Caterham) he's simply less animated, thats no reason to insult the dude. I think he bounced off Matt's questions well and baring in mind everything Matt is saying is basically preaching to the choir as the guy knows exactly how his car is and has probably heard it all before from everyone he's ever taken for a passenger ride in it. Chill a bit guys :)

He mentioned he lived in europe. I'm from the UK myself so when I watch this video the contrast in personalities between someone from the states and someone from europe is quite clear, Matt is very animated and has alot to say whereas this guy is a little bit quiet in comparison but thats not to say that either one is a bad thing. Theres alot of value in what they both bring to the discussion :)

For people hating on this guy. English obviously isn't his first language, so he took Matt's self-depreciation joke quite literally, and just added a fact. No need for premature judgement, y'all aren't perfect either. He wasn't trying to rub in any bitterness. Also, I'm assuming (?) he's of European origin, so he probably didn't quite figure out Matt's tone yet. However, he obviously didn't have much to say in terms of conversation I'll give you that (maybe he just wanted Matt to be comfortable talking about the car), but no need to hate on the dude. Matt any insight? Since you were literally with him.

To me that the very essence of driving. Extremely light weight, and not spoiled by shit like turbos that take away from feel and instant reaction. ..it does take a skilled driver though. ..and a decent climate. Still fun to me that the UK is the main provider of such cars, considering the horrible weather we have in this part of the world. Cool car, cool video Matt.
@891trigfoot7 жыл бұрын
JohnnyNr5 i would rather have 300 hp and have to wait 2 sec for it to kick in then have 180 hp and good throttle response cause the 300 hp turbo will be smoking your 180 everytime while u sit 20 cars back praising your throttle response lol plus this isnt the 80's there is something called anti lag now lol
@funkingitup18057 жыл бұрын
+JohnnyNr5 Modern turbos with variable geometry have virtually zero lag, and when a turbo is mounted to an engine that had good response without a turbo, the turbo does nothing to ruin the "reaction". You are living in the past.
@jo05dk7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if i'm extra sensitive having grown up with carbureted cars and bikes, or you just don't know any better, but man do we disagree on that. I like turbo engines for a daily, but for fun i need the direct connection. If you are unable to feel the difference you're the lucky one. It does seem to be what the industry is going for. Still i feel better off for knowing what the real deal feels like.
@tonspike7 жыл бұрын
I've driven modern McLarens, a 911TT, GT-Rs, you name it. Yes, there is a difference in the way that they feel compared to N/A cars. I've driven cheap N/A cars to R8 V10s, and they are always more responsive in throttle application.
@tonspike7 жыл бұрын
The essence of driving enjoyment is not just about the sensation of speed. It's about steering feel, the information you get through the suspension, the way the car sounds and looks. Sorry, but not every drive is a race to be #1.

If you want to drive on a track and learn how to drive well, then this is car is perfect. With a decent amount of power, they're faster than most high perfomance cars and all the credit goes to the driver. My only concern is the lack of safety and crumple zones... I was scared to death as a passenger in the UK haha
@bbpleg7 жыл бұрын
Wake so you would recommend a car which hides your mistakes? Perhaps a nice nanny like esp system? The caterham is basically a go cart. It's very predictable, cheap to run, small wheels and therefore cheap tires, you can fix anything on it yourself, lightweight therefore easy on the brakes and transmission, uses ford engine therefore cheap to fix... the list goes on and on.
@C42ST3N7 жыл бұрын
Wake has never driven a caterham. It is a analog car and i mean a REAL analog car. It is not hard to drive or punish you if you are not doing something really stupid. The cars loses nearly no value, can handle the track abuse with no problems at all and is really cheap to maintain. Other cars need a lot of modification to handle track abuse and you have to pay a lot of money which you will never get back. You can get a academy for around 10k track ready and run it for years.

maybe because the caterham does not offer weather protection, heat, soundinsulation, an exotic engine, electrical gadgets and high end brand. A caterham doesn´t really compete with a 488. If its a track car you want, buy a trackcar and a trailer. For most people a sensible sportscar is better even if it does not provide the same pure sensation.
