granthibbett Great respect for the engine choice too. Many go for the crazy R400/500 for the straight line performance, exactly the opposite of what a lightweight seven is all about! The 140 to my way of thinking is the true essence of the original!
@granthibbett9 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Mccrae Yes it's a great little package and certainly lightweight. Mine, with full weather gear and 3/4 tank of fuel, weighs in at 526.5kg. It's a good 30kg less than a friend's Duratech.

Really makes me want a Caterham again. I sold mine in 2002. It was a 1.6k Supersport. Same power. Exhaust on left side though.

I test drove the 485 a few days ago here in Switzerland. Although it was mighty. This one really seems better, more alive. They used to import this model but apparently its not possible any longer. Thank you so much for this video.

A great blatt that was... I can easily see that a 40 min run to a distant coffee shop, could easily turn into a more distant blatt to a pub for lunch, then a further scenic blatt back home again for arvo coffee with the missus, and she wondering why you have such a big grin on your face. Intoxicating Caterham fun. Just one small ask... reposition (Raise) the forward view video camera, the drivers mirror obscures the view down the road... yes, we viewers like to see where we are going also. But great drive. Thanks for the blatt.

Waiting for some dry weather now and will be out n about....and doing a vid. It does make me feel good when I'm at the wheel.....I totally understand why people love them now!

Love the Supersport Ford Sigma 1.6 it gives almost the perfect blend of power - acceleration & economy plus having the drivers side exhaust it's truely addictive having it popping & banging in your earhole. From my one experience of driving one after hiring it for the day it has such a broad spread of torque right through the rev range & gears brilliant car with a grin a minute factor you'll never understand until you drive one. There The Mutts Nuts!
@granthibbett10 жыл бұрын
Yep, got it in one. It's a great spec for the road. Did you hire one with a view to buying?
@andrewscrogham56010 жыл бұрын
No I just love the car & aspire to owning one I first did a track day around Oulton Park in one which was a real buzz don't get me wrong but with Ferraris & 911 GT3s coming past you at 140mph plus it was a bit shit scary but then I hired one for the day with Roadsport Hire the first time was driving a Roadsport 125 which I loved driving it on the road n that felt plenty quick enough but Scott the owner as a final harrah got a roadsprt but with the Supersport upgrade fitted to it & that was just fantastic to drive unfortunately he has given up the hire business now the nearest one to home for me is Blue Sky Caterham hire nr Lancaster as I'm in Cumbria. But one day I'd love a 7 it's the matter of storing it that I've never bought one but one day I'm determined to get one.

Thomas Gallicani the mic was placed on the rear cycle wing, right behind the exhaust. It is a baffled mic meaning very resistant to wind noise interference.

How are your wing mirrors attached on this car? I want to get something like these for mine.
@granthibbett10 жыл бұрын
Caterham IVA/SVA mirrors. To be honest they're rubbish and I'm planning on changing them for some SPA Carbon items that'll mount off of the lower door hinge.
@martynjharris10 жыл бұрын
granthibbett Thanks. I've seen plenty of SPA mirrors but cannot find a decent way to mount them. Can you link to the mount, or are you just going to drill them into the windscreen stanchion?

Hi there, Now that's how you drive a proper Caterham!!! I'm looking at buying one, is there anymore particular I should look at getting? Where's the best place to buy one? Any information be much appreciated!
@granthibbett7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. There is lots of information out there re Caterham buying. Places such as Blatchat or PistonHeads. Best tip is to buy on condition, not age or mileage. Good places to buy from are Sevensandclassics.com, PT Sports Cars and Bookatrack at Donnington.
@jakespencer61247 жыл бұрын
granthibbett Ahh okay no worries thank you! What's the tax and insurance like on these now days? I'll have to have a look at them places
@granthibbett7 жыл бұрын
Tax is something like £180 and insurance is cheap too (as long as you use a specialist insurer). If you've not driven one before, I would highly recommend hiring one beforehand. Every Caterham is very different and it's useful to get an idea those differences and which will suit you, before you buy one.
@jakespencer61247 жыл бұрын
granthibbett very cheap then! Any insurance company in particular? Yeah I think it's best I hire a few before buying
@all_out_of_bubble_gum Жыл бұрын
Be HONEST Guys, does it really need "more" caterham than this ⁉️ DO you really have more Joy with a 420R ? It's Not about acceleration but the pure feel of driving. In my opinion a Superlight with 145-160 hp 1.6 is best machine to drive
@granthibbett Жыл бұрын
Well I can answer that as having had my 1.6 Supersport for 4 years, I'm now >3 years into my 420R. And I definitely prefer the 420R.

galactic sound but very poor camera position. you see the mirror in the center but nothing of the road where you're heading to.
@granthibbett8 жыл бұрын
+Werner Bäderschneider I disagree on two parts. Firstly the camera position is mostly unique in Caterham videos, therefore adds a different perspective. Secondly, and as per the video title, this video is a tribute to the exhaust and thus all about the noise.
