We are just south of the station at Swastika Ontario on the Ontario Northland Railway. The south bound Northlander pulls in to pickup passengers. The Caterpillar powered, FP7 really puts on a show as she leaves the station, and passes the camera. These where rebuilt with a 3615 v16 Caterpillar engine, and deverloped 2075 HP. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294.5...
Just some info on the town name, Swastika.
The town was named after the Swastika Gold Mine staked in the autumn of 1907 and incorporated on January 6, 1908. During World War II the provincial government sought to change the town's name to Winston in honour of Winston Churchill, but the town refused, insisting that the town had held the name long before the Nazis co-opted the swastika symbol.

I can see where they're coming from, but the argument is no different from "We were swimming in this lake long before that factory started dumping toxic waste, so we're gonna keep swimming in it."

I know exactly where you shot this video, after all Im from Kirkland Lake, and wow this brings me back to my childhood. I was born in 1990, so I was like between 8 or 9 when I last saw this locomotive in service. I thank you for trip home and the childhood memories.

@ONRrailfan Thanks! I'm sure I got some crossing shots somewhere! I'll have to look for it, or it isn't downloaded yet. I still have about 80 hours of video I need to transfer to the HD yet, then edit. I sure have my work cut out for me! LOL

It's regarded as a symbol of protection in that part of the world - although I believe Hitler's symbol was reversed from that of hindu tradition. (I may be wrong about that part tho)

Glad the towns people had common sense and stood up for the name of the town. I was born in a city called Kitchener, it’s original name was Berlin before the 1st World War. It was settled in the early 1800’s by a group of Mennonite religious group that left Pennsylvania in 1808. It became a thriving community and attracted a lot of German immigrants. It was notable for furniture factories and industrial equipment. I remember my Great grandma having a piano that was made in Berlin, Ontario. Sadly they bowed down to groups that thought because of the name of the city that they backed the Kaiser, which was so far from the truth.

I'd love to work for ONR, but I think I am a few decades too late to apply. Everything I read and see makes it sound like they're all but closed down, now. At least for rail freight.

Um Ontario Northland is alive and kicking better than ever. It's the passenger service that's been decommissioned. At least the Northlander is decommissioned. The Polar Bear Express is still around..

Not really sure what is in there. Its for heat/AC, so may be a Cummins power unit inside there. I know they are called, "EGU's" for Electric Generator Unit.

Actually sounded sweet. You can hear the turbo chargers spool up and the smooth throb of the diesels. But that just me.
@Greatdome99

From the high pitch, I'd say most of the noise was coming from the generator. Turbos don't spool up at low speeds.

Ontario Canada stop funding this train Daveyboy. So it no longer runs. It ran out of Toronto Canada north to North Bay, then went up to Cochrane. At Cochrane you can catch the train (which still runs) to Moose Factory on James Bay. It still runs, because there are no roads north of Cochrane. So the only way to James Bay is by train, or bush plane. People are fighting Ontario to get the train back running again on the ONR south between Cochrane and Toronto. Very Nice ride by the way. We shall see. Thanks for watching.
