That’s got to be the tallest tunnel I’ve ever seen!

Hey Jack, lots of these ore gons ended up at Arcolor Mittel in Coatsville PA for slab movements from the mill in Coatesville to the 220" mill in Conshohocken. That has been suspended as the "Chonshy" mill is being closed and equipment moved to Coatesville. Many of these little cars are sitting in the mill yard with rusty wheels now. Hope you and the Mrs. are hanging in there. Clyde

@SantaFebuff Traveled all over US, and NE Canada just for this purpose. Spent at least 3 weeks a year on long distance travel. It is pretty expensive to do it now, plus we lost a lot of neat railroads, and locomotives over my last 30 years of filming. Thanks for watching...

even though I was born in 2003, seeing these alcos made me feel nostalgic.. although I have never seen an ALCo in real life either

They sure are something to see, and to hear Shane. You should make a trip to northern PA sometime and see them battle the grade to Keating Summit. Fantastic. Thanks for watching...

I saw my first ALCO Century unit the other day and I was amazed at how cool it looked in person. It was GBW 315, which is on display at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI. I hope the museum restores it sometime in the near future.

Hope I get to see one in the solid, then.

The Illinois Railroad Museum in Union, IL., northwest of Chicago, occasionally operates a GBW (former Santa Fe) Alco RSD15 on the museum's trackage. Smoke ordinances be damned!

@tommyrail67 Glad you enjoyed it! It was shot on the Cartier in Northeastern Quebec. We where 30 miles back a little dirt road in the wilderness. We went back as far as 81 miles. It was a long, gruling road, but well worth what we got up there... Thanks for watching, and there is a good many other Cartier clips in my collection...

Hi I'm putting together a KZbin video on the alco century's. Would it be ok if I used some of this footage?

@her75man Thanks Herman! and yes! Dutch threw and threw. Seems most of the Kuiphoff's that settled in the NJ area, added the second F. Don't know why. When we where in the Netherlands several years back, I checked out the phone directory. There where a good many Kuiphoffs in there. My mom was a DeBoer. Another popular Dutch name. Thanks for watching, and stay safe. Jack...

There not alco there are mlw m630 ex CN ones you can tell because the truck design is different on a MLW than a alco

The sound reminds me of the late Penn Central/ early Conrail days, when all the big Centuries were transferred to Mingo Junction where they handled iron ore trains on the Cleveland to Pittsburgh main, headed for Conway Yard, then the mills along the Ohio and Monongahela valleys

Ask an on old time railroader. They’ll tell ya those Alcos were like thunder coming up the grades. You’d think a tornado was coming.

@CarNutandTrainNut2 I can't recall the price of the film, $13-15 rings a bell for a 50' reel of film, and about the same to develop it .I started with 8mm sound film in 1976. I have 11 400' reels of 8mm film. Some of the 8mm film is on here, but the guy that did it, did a poor job and the quality is poor. I just had all the film restored, transfered to DVD by Charles Smiley. They look fantastic. Some of the film will be featured on Charles Smiley's up-coming realeases. Glad you enjoy the clips..

Love watching good old MLW's, wish you had more of the CP and CN to show. Do you know which DVD that Smiley used some of your films for the up - coming Releases that you mentioned?

That's quite a tall tunnel those MLW's are exiting. Know of any reason why there's so much headroom?
@chuckgilly3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, my guess is since that is a rather young railroad built in the late 1950's they would build taller tunnels to future proof for heaver and taller rolling stock in the coming years.

Epic. So, did you like travel North America back then just to film trains?
@lm15845 жыл бұрын
Is that notch8 for this train? Sure sounds like notch6 in most others.
@1jackdk4 жыл бұрын
Alco's have a sound all their own. Maybe that is the reason. Thanks for watching.

@1jackdk Almost sounds like the dream of any railroader. Even though we are losing railroads, we are still in a very entertaining railroad scene. I believe that all the technological advances and new evolutions have masked it... Today, people miss a lot of the old power. I fear it may cause people to forget what is new now, will be legend later. They will be left empty handed, the one who only can pull from their memory. Your not one of them. You acted and got footage. I hope to do the same! :)
