ABOUT ME:
Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

Hi Ford! I saw another KZbinr who has a great tutorial for beading. Her channel is The Giddy Stitcher. Like you, she shows how she does it slow enough that you can follow. The beads stand up and in the correct direction. My first time using beads, I couldn't get them to stand up straight - they would fall on their side and show the hole. That wasn't the look I was going for. I watched a tutorial and found that you go through the hole in the fabric like a regular cross stitch, then through the bead and own the 2nd hole like you would normally. Then up the 3rd hole, split the thread putting one on each side of the bead, and down your last hole, so you have complete the cross in your stitch. Then I found the Giddy Stitcher who added on to that. Thanks for sharing Ford. Take care.

Hi Ford, I've been beading for years and sort of found my own way along trying different methods. I always use the clear nylon thread for attaching beads, going through each bead twice as if it is a cross stitch. The beads sill beautify. By using clear thread, all your see is the bead colour and you don't have to change colours as you bead different colour beads. You can also run a little way along the back of the fabric without worrying about it showing from the front. The secret to using the nylon thread is to attach a bead at the end of the thread opposite to the end you have your needle. You then cast on from the front about 3 inches from where you are going to come up in the fabric to start your first bead. Once you've attached your beads you go back to the original cast on bead. Remove remove the bead (it will slide off fairly easily) and you then secure off the nylon end behind existing stitches as normal. Only thing to remember is not to iron your project where the nylon thread is once beaded this way, the iron will melt the thread and all your beads will fall off.

I've been using beads in my stitching for years. Esp cat eyes. At bottom, I mix stitches with beads. It really makes the entire picture pop & dazzle. My F-knots stink or come undone, so I went to beads. But I'm off to watch your video on F-knots. Just love ya.

Loved the”Boy Hoarder”…..of needles ….this 73 year Happy Ager….grew up with parents of the Great Depression……”thusly I never met a needle I didn’t like to see it live for another day” and yes everyone should have a Mr. Scrappy……

Funny how experiencing poverty can change our relationship to possessions. I've certainly used things long past when they should have been retired, and it's always a struggle to get myself to spend money on things I need now that I'm more financially secure. Luckily things like needles take up so little space! Thanks for watching!

Learned a lot, thank you! When working with beads, consider buying a beading mat. You poor the beads on the mat and they do not roll anywhere. Plus you can pick up the beads easily by sticking your needle through the beads into the mat whitout dulling your needle top.

Thank you for this Ford. I have an almost finished project which just needs to be washed, ironed and beads added. The beads are in the centre of some poppies. I've been putting it off but maybe I'll do it now ahead of the Witchy Way SAL and get it off my to do list ❤

They both turned out really nice ,they were gifts for my two sons and their wives. Had them matted and framed in glass ,plus got it all done on a fantastic sale ,total 200.00 for the both of them I was thrilled. Only don't ever loo at the back of them, it's horrendous. Next cross stitch I do ,I will concentrate on making a clean backing. Lol

My first two cross stitch marriage records I did, the only cross stitch I've ever done, were very fun to me ,once I replaced some of the threads with metallic threads ,added heading, etc. I also didn't get anal about every stitch was where it should be. The one marriage records was extremely busy ,with alot of one and two stitch groupings

Hi just wanted to give you a simple hint just run the legs of a cross stitch through the center of the bead it will give you a horizontal or vertical bead depending on which order you choose to put the legs in. If you want it diagonal the run one leg of a cross stitch through it. What you did was a good idea but I don’t think it is tight enough.

To do a loop start with 3 strands, it would mean that you would end up stitching with 6 strands. The process is the same. The loop start works best with even numbers

Mon; July 8th, 2024 Hi, Ford! Here's another Flosstuber you can learn beading from if you think you want to do it differntly...her name is Dana, from Peacock and Fig. I think she's since semi-retired from doing cross-stitch videos but, her videos are still available for viewing if you'd like to check her out. Good luck!! Blessed stitching to you all at Catapillar Crossstitch (❤Trish) North Adams, Massachusetts, USofA

Thanks so much for watching! I've learned a lot from Dana over the years for sure! I like to try to muddle through before looking at tutorials sometimes so I can understand why it's done the way it is. And sometimes I hit upon my own methods that work even better (like my French knot technique). Thanks for watching!
