@Lord Farquaad Don't speak for everyone but for yourself, you nor anyone here know what people will be wearing in 10 years from now. In my opinion, modern clothing is ugly as hell, comfortable, yes, but the comfort is because of the materials the clothes are made, not because of its appearance; we can made super comfortable clothes that look like 200 years ago clothes. So elegant and still so comfortable. Same apply to architecture for example, instead of those disgusting concrete white cubes or those weird abstract sculptures, we can make buildings and art like before, but using modern materials and techniques, so we're saving money and time, and getting beauty and durability. Also it depends the place you're living in; I guess that if you're from the USA you don't actually give a shit about clothes or architecture, but here in Europe we have a culture and a fashion that some of us want to maintain, same in other cultures around the world probably. Of course is my opinion, I can be wrong or not.
@thecakeisalie63924 жыл бұрын
@Lord Farquaad That's the point, I mean your first paragraph, we are getting used increasingly to live with shabby and vulgar-looking buildings and clothes, we don't care anymore the visual looking and even long-term durability of the things, we are becoming too conformists. Old buildings and clothes have managed to survived centuries until our days because of their excelent quality; those exceptional pieces of art are the reflection of the past generations, and the things we build today will be the reflection we'll leave tho the forthcoming generations. I don't know if I'm explaining my point correctly. It's not the same a grove with renacentist-looking facade buildings to the sides than one of those rusty post-soviet cube buildings with post-apocalyptic vibes. Also, I don't mean to make old fashion exaclty like the old times, of course society and workflow are so different. What I mean is to make good looking clothes but with modern materials. Clothes like the guy in the video wears, but it's comfortable, functional and affordable even to modern mid/low-class people, it hasn't to be hyper high quality clothes, made with the same materials and the same form than 200 years ago, so only a few would mind to get it; no. You can have 5, 10, 15 or the amount of clothes of this type you want on your wardrobe because it's the same as if you buy a sweatshirt or jeans. Not sure if I'm explaining myself correctly.

This young Gentleman is like myself, I have always lived odd, I'm 38 and still live oddly. My Parents were odd so I grew up not being normal, my Father likes fantasy, Dragons, Wizards, Aliens, books and my Mother liked to read to us as kids, plus write little stories and she likes fantasy as well, we were never the football Dad, Soccer Mom type of people, we went to Historical places and read trivia for fun, spent most of my childhood playing outside, they still play card games on Sunday after Church with my Uncle, but we also play things like horseshoes and have grill cooking picnics. We live in the country in Pennsylvania, so we were odd, very common sense, able to hold an intelligent conversation Hillbillies. Lets just put it this way I never fit in, I still don't, people like this Gentleman are my kind of people. I have always dressed different than everyone even as a child, people used to laugh or shun me, I never cared always liked being different, I now have my house decorated on a poor girls budget to mimic the Victorian era, I also wear outfits on regular days that mimic the time period with modern thrown in for practicality and when going to Historical places I dress in dresses closer to the time period. I Love it and it makes me happy, just the same as it makes this Gentleman happy, some of us are just not meant to fit in, in life and that is ok.

Chas Mahmood - All things Victorian - really? When a woman married all her money and property would belong to your husband. If he was abusive and you tried to leave him, and/or seek a divorce, he would automatically get custody of your many children - there was no such thing as marital rape, you had to do your duty come what may, and your future marriage prospects would be permanently blighted. Women did not have the vote. There was no restriction on the age of consent so young girls could be raped and exploited with impunity. If you did not marry, becoming a 'spinster, you would have had no means of support other than working as a governess if you were middle class, If working class, the best you could hope for was factory work, workinging semi-naked in a coal mine with no safety precautions, and extremely long hours etc - no pretty dresses for you. For many this situation led to prostitution to survive, unwanted children, dire poverty, lack of medical treatment, and an early death without painkillers. Maybe not so fantastic after all!!

I am an Asian woman living in a tropical Asian country, and I dress very similarly to him (my preference is mori girl and/or French countryside). Please don't give up on your dreams just because you don't think it's possible! This kind of lifestyle isn't begun suddenly by throwing out all of your things and replacing them in an instant. It takes years of accumulation and cutting back. In the meantime, you can slowly replace certain items to get used to the idea. For instance, while the Victorians wore a lot of layers, their clothes were made of natural fibers like cotton or linen, which is quite cooling, unlike polyester which is literally plastic and doesn't let any air pass through. You could start by consciously replacing your clothes with more natural fibers. Not only is it more comfortable, it's also more eco-friendly. If you are thinking about doing this, I recommend KZbin channels such as Bernadette Banner and Karolina Zabrowska, who are also transitioning to this lifestyle. You can also google "history-bounding" for more info.
