The shitter was invented in the 17/1800s so this house would have a shitter in and out side. Before he moved in the previous owner would of modern it up so that the house would definitely have a shitter upstairs or downstairs or both. Back in the day the shitter was outside in a hut called the shit house.

I am 83 years old (1939). I remember very well my parent's flat in 1949. Those 10 years were the happiest of my childhood. I understand and salute him for recreating a past that he finds offers peace and contenment. It should be noted that between 1939 and 1945, WW2 was in progress. My dad was deaf in one ear and was not accepted for military service. I didn't lose him during the war. Not the case for many other kids of my age. I also had a serious operation back then that could have been avoided if penicillin had been available. But the point of the gentleman's exercise is to create an atmosphere of what could have been had the death and distruction of the war had not occurred. So, live your dream my friend. I hope you are still living in your alternate reality.

Locally, yes in a way, but globally and generally? We're more connected than ever. You can text your dad and get a reply even if you're thousands of miles away in just a few seconds. You can meet people you've never met in person that live across the globe! So much information is available and it's much better than what it used to be in the past. Fernando Valles There's thousands, if not millions of people in this world who think just like this guy, they just don't take it as far as he does. Read what people have written below. People like you talk about the problems of the 40's, like it's perfect today with kids shooting each other, and Western nations facing cultural extinction. Nothing like that back then.....and don't say the problem is guns. The problem is there are millions of whacked out people around today including kids. Wasn't like that 100 years ago. It's not "mental" for someone to embrace a style they love. One problem with people today is they're too judgemental , like you.

I've never seen anyone say as much bollocks in one paragraph as you just did hahahaha. You don't know if he's soft, even if he is what's wrong with that? Why would he focus on the negative aspects of the 1940s in decorating his home? Why does one need to have experiences of a time period to decorate their lives around it? How is he running away from reality, the 1940s wasn't a time period that existed in an alternate universe? He seems pretty normal to me just has a passion for something, nowt wrong with that.
