all I used was some cheese trimmings, sardines in mustard sauce, and a container of rooster livers, a few cotton balls ripped apart for fiber to help the bait hold together, I didnt measure any of it just put together how it looked good to me...the sponges are regular cheap ones from the dollar store, I think about $2 for a pack of 4, cut them into pieces whatever size you feel is good for your hooks .I did have to add a good bit of water to thin it out enough to cook into the sponge, just barely thin enough to cook in...

Sardines in mustard sauce is what the can said.puree and mix in...might not want to use the wife's good blender or mixer though....lol

Wouldn't a swallowed sponge kill a fish if it took it off the hook?

Could if swallowed, but most time when the hook gets in their mouth that are not thinking about swallowing then...just trying to get away...but also when I’m fishing for channels, ( which is mainly what I use the sponge bait for) I’m after keepers to dress and freeze for our food.

Chicken liver, sardines, cheese trimmings (stinky lol), and a little mahendra oil…sponges cut to cook mixture into to place on hooks, or use as a dip bait for tubes…good for channel cats

Flat heads are also called yellow cats, mud cats, they have a few different names…look up flathead catfish on KZbin..lol

@@pprattpratt I'm 60 years old been fishing my whole life and flathead eat live bait fresh cut bait never ever have I caught one on liver channels and blue cat and bullheads and nothen else even resemble a flat head a yellow bullhead has some same colors other than that nowhere even close

Guess they bite differently in differently areas, never said this caught a bunch of flattest but it has caught several of them…I’m 53 fished most of my life as well. Different bites in different areas. Helps make life more interesting I guess…Tight lines friend…
