I use braid backing mono mainline. The braid helps if you need extra line and it’s away from the cover and you can load up a low profile with line that way

Those Okuma's are looking pretty nice. Really like that they have aluminum side plates. Beast of a reel for a low profile. Way beefier than my Curado K's, and only a few dollars more. Definitely going to get one next time I need a low profile reel.

they are nice but if you want an old classic that is a great reel the Shimano Bantam 50 holds the same line but is slower ratio I think.

That looks like a way to get a lot of fish in a little time, you do make it look easy I guess that's why you're Catfish Dave. But listen, over here in Ar the river is low there is hardly any flow and the dams aren't letting any water go, so were do you suggest getting skipjack in these conditions, great video by the way!

Well that new okuma set up seems like it's a pretty good setup and I'm kind of like you are I'm kind of skeptical with the braid I've got braid on one of my spinners now and it is a real small diameter buddy I has the strength of a 15 lb test and all of my other spinners I've got either 10 lb or 12 lb on my baitcasters now my other bigger rods I got 17 lb on up to nearly 30 lb and casting that small diameter braid it can be real tricky when you are used to casting monofilament so I can understand you but it seems that okuma is a good setup but I enjoyed the video I enjoy watching videos with you and two other people on KZbin and I enjoy all of the videos probably between you and Justin Johnson y'all are my two favorite Steve Douglas I love his videos but you catfish Dave when you put out a new video I normally watch it and pass it on to my kids

What is the average weight of a skipjack and what the biggest one you have seen or caught? Also love watching your videos, it’s great to go with you on your fishing trips.
@catfishdave81922 жыл бұрын
Just over 4 pounds is maximum weight. They average between a pound and two pounds

Love ya Dave and I Love Okuma gear but the few guys I know who have that reel have trouble with it.
@dave43272 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, I just saw this after I posted a comment saying how great they looked, and I was going to get one lol. What kind of problems do your friends have with them?
@brotherbrian56252 жыл бұрын
@@dave4327 when you cast it the clutch will engage the spool and stop the spool from releasing. That sucks especially on a hard cast and your bait goes flying off the hook. 🤣🤣....I've seen it personally. My buddy had one at the lake one day and I was admiring the looks but after watching that reel malfunction over and over .....NO WAY. Dave better get a refund while he can 🤣
@dave43272 жыл бұрын
@@brotherbrian5625 Were they using braid? That will happen sometimes to me especially using smaller braid, 20lb ish. A hook set, or pulling hard through vegetation will pack the line down into the spool, and do just what you said. (best not go for a bomber cast right after a bunch of tension) Mono doesn't much do that in my experience. Sorry for the long winded question, but I was really interested in these reels after CD showed them, and I looked at them on Tackle Warehouse.
@brotherbrian56252 жыл бұрын
@@dave4327 that wasn't the issue... You may be able to do some research on reviews. I've heard it's a common problem.

Why do you not fish Big whole LIVE skip jack , right where you catch the big Skips . Big Catfish follow big bait right,. I almost got an 80-90 blue on a 2 lb live skip. Well I hooked it, and got a look as it surfaced and rolled and took my hook line and sinker lol

Just found this channel,was impressed with the fish,then looked at other video,and found out it's just bait for bigger fish😨big 🐋
@JubbyzUnkle2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t necessarily say fishing with mono is an old guy thing, however if you’ve fished with mono for 30 plus years like a lot of us have, you just become accustom to it. It’s all about dialing in your setup..if mono is too stretchy or not sensitive enough, compensate with a longer or more sensitive rod, use a faster gear ratio reel.. and if you’ve never thrown mono on a baitcaster..whoowee..it’s so slicky smooth, long casts, durable..dial in that setup homies

Get you some Better Bait off Amazon for the live well. River Certified uses it all the time. He actually has to because where he’s from he can not transport water from one place t another. And he loads his bait bucket down with numerous big Bull heads and Green Sunfish. Anyway. Sorry. I’ll continue watching now.
Hate fishing in current. A 5lb fish feels like a 25lb fish and takes just as long to bring in
