As a kid, I was treated to a day of trout fishing below the Fontana dam on the Little Tenn River. In the predawn morning before the TVA opened the gates and started the generators, the water level was low enough to see the huge round moss covered boulders in the bottom of that stretch of river, some of those rocks were as big as automobiles! The rented wooden skiffs leaked so bad we took turns bailing out the water with a coffee can.

I gotta say Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is the very definition of a tourist trap but dang if it isn't a fun place to go. Growing up in Knoxville we went there a lot and I had an aunt and uncle in Sevierville. In the early '80s we used to hit up this one go-kart track and get the local rate and go crazy in there. They would actually let only us once, just us 5-6 crazy 20 year olds on the track and wet it. We proceeded to draw the customers in with our antics. I can't remember the name of that track. The owner was a really nice guy and the fella who ran it knew his business. Those cars were FAST and the curves, banked but wet and slick as an eel's belly, made for some hair-raising spins and pile ups. Good times. I don't care what anyone says. Channel cats are easier and fun to catch. Out of the right water they're tasty. I'd eat some catfish from the Little Pigeon for supper tonight. I hope you get your discount at the cabins there. 😉🤭👍🙋♂️

I got my Jon boat stuck in that river a week ago. I drifted down and realized the water was very shallow when it stopped on a rock 😂 I stepped out of the boat and had to push it to deeper water. The vegetation was so bad in some parts trolling motor would work. Catfish your brave fishing that spot of the river this time of the year.

He's right about watching the water. I have stayed in that exact stretch on the Little Pigeon, and the water goes way up and down all day. Sometimes it's quite high and deep and other times you can literally walk right across it, if you go on down the river a bit.

Dave...I notice what a fight it is at times to get those circle hooks out of some of those channel cats' mouth. I think it would be an interesting video to have a competition between one rod with a regular circle hook and a rod with the barb bent down. I know that your hook up won't go down, but keeping them on?? I don't know. Be fun to see. I've watched every one of your videos since 2017 and I've never seen this discussed. Even though you release all of your fish. Not trying to be a smart azz. All I know about catfishing I learned from you. Being from the pacific northwest, I have never fished for them. Sure looks like a good time!
