Because back in 2005 when this game was released, environments usually didn't look anything like they would in real life. A lot of textures were flat, and water effects weren't all that developed. So yeah, water and rocks in the original game didn't look all that great

The reason so few games have crazy fog or particle effects is because they are extremely memory intensive. The GPU can render 2D images really efficiently, but with fog and particles, you have to use the CPU (in most cases; Star Citizen figured out how to do GPU particles) because you are rendering "pixels" in a volume, not on a plane.

5:36 Turtles live near large bodies of water, such as sea turtles and snapping turtles. Tortoises tend to be larger, living in dryer areas such as the desert biome that Jack found them in. I think. That's what I heard.

You are right! Even box turtles, which look more like tortoises, live around and in water. However, speaking technically, tortoises are just a subgroup of the turtle genus. So in a way, Jack is correct in calling them turtles
