i have theory why giant snake thing is in desert not because of the rings that keep it in place but because the desert is hot so warm drafts of wind are continuously going up in the desert and that's what keeps the colossus in the sky. warm drafts of air were predicted to be the reasons why large pterosaurs such as Quetzalcoatlus were able to fly despite their size and so i think that is why phalanx is there and can't leave because it would just fall.

It isnt just Advanceed Kinematics. Its actual term for this specific one is Inverse Kinematics (IK). Took a 3D animation class in highschool, and we did rigging for that stuff. So if you want a little more knowledge on that stuff, read on! Forward Kinematics (FK) was and is still used, ableit less so than Inverse Kinematics because of their functionality. FK is a lot like a toy soldier, YOU pose the model, joint by joint. There is nothing inherently wrong with the system, but if an animator isn't careful it can result in things like body parts clipping through surfaces or stiff animation. There isnt much more to say here, other than if FK isnt used that much in comparison to IK. IK is a system that looks and feels more natural, when it works. Inverse Kinmatics is more like a puppet, you can drag the bottom/furthest most joint to a location, and the computer determines what it should look/move like. Its an incredibly handy system and it has a ton of uses. Most notably its used for legs, it does a better job at avoiding clipping than an FK system does, and it quicker and less tedious than an FK leg system.. However, it does have its faults. If the Technical Director (the person who rigs a model, or gives it is skeleton) doesn't take the precaution to put certain restraints on the joints it can result in very broken, janky looking scenes. An example would be having a leg, and they get to the knee. Well, human knees have a limited range of motion. Lets say axis X is the legs ability to swing left and right like a grandfather clock's pendulum. Axis Y is the bend of it, from standing straight to tucking it under you as you sit. And Z is the twist/rotation of the bones of the leg, this determines whether your feet points inwards or outwards, more so than the ankle does. The Z axis is generally the most limited axis. Theres a cetain range of motion each of these joints have, and if the Tech Director doesnt constrain some of these, it results in some pretty psycho movements and generally unnatural movements. The more you know!

Spoilers about the ruins and such. When you ask about the city, I think it revolves around Dormín. There was a reason Dormín was split into 16 parts. I think the valley was occupied by people who worshiped Dormín, but Dormín did something that either made them leave or killed them all and was thus punished and "destroyed" as not to have that happen again. I think the colossi were put in places with such buildings on a more coincidence basis, even though those prior buildings help with the fight. A major thing is that the colossi only appear to "wake-up" when Wander comes near. Since I believe the special sword is causing that, I think the destruction of buildings are from time, Dormín's fault, or both.

Out of all the colossi in the game, Phalanx is the only one who *will not harm you no matter what.* Attack it all you want; it will *never* retaliate. That's what makes killing the colossi so sad; they're basically just animals trying to protect themselves. Some use violence, and some (like Phalanx) don't, but you're slaughtering them all the same, all because you think it will bring a princess back to life. It really makes you wonder if it's even worth it in the end.

Favorite colossus is definitely Phalanx. I especially like his passive and undefended AI, it makes his theme "Counterattack" ironic since he's the only colossus that doesn't fight back.

Phalanx left the biggest impression on me (no pun intended) the first time I played the game. The way it floated around in the air so majestically along with the music plus that strange face it has with 2 eyes on one side & just one eye on the other. It was definitely the colossus I thought about the most. I still think though that Avion is my #1 favorite with Phalanx in strong 2nd place. It's not an easy choice. Both colossi are awesome & both get some screen time in the movie "Reign Over Me".

One of my favorite things about this game is that every single tree and Bush and dead twig are all different and not just copies of the same texture. I also love how Jack can come from talking about Pacific Rim to "Look at this... my foot goes on a rock!" and make it all connect somehow

All the Colossi have names in latin and greek: Agro means farming,Phalanx is the formation Spartan warriors fight in(shields on front and spears behind,Barb is beard,Hydro is water, Gaius is the equivalent to the name Guy in english.There are probably more names in Latin.The weird thing is, the language in the game is gibberish.

Jack you can actually grab the animals! To fly you can grab the eagles when on Agro and the doves near Mono. There also some large fish in water that can drag you should you grab them. I believe there's a counter to how long you've held the eagle for, the doves etc.

each colossi contains a fragment of Dormin. Dormin is an ethereal being, so he's basically still able to talk to you cause, magic. that guy with the mask is known as shaman Emman. he is the one who split Dormin into the 16 fragments. the reason he knows that Wander is even in the forsaken land is that wander was his student. we can infer this from the fact that he is the only character to wear the same style clothes as wander. the story of what happened before the game is that shaman Emman had a vision of one he sealed away long ago coming back to wreak havoc. due to this vision, he makes a sacrifice. Mono. so, basically, he caused Dormin to be freed by sacrificing wanders gf basically. so, wander steals the ancient sword relic, and goes to find Dormin, who the shaman actually inferred to wander, can restore life. then the game happens, you kill the guardians of the fragments of Dormin and absorb the fragments, giving Dormin a human host in the form of Wander. then shaman boi comes along, be like, "fk no" and tries to seal him away again
