I use 9ft Shakespeare big water alpha rods with Okuma Avenger bait feeder reels with 30 lb mono and 2 to 3 oz sinker with an 08 circle hook. And I use cut bait. The catfish channel or flathead takes the bait and runs, I then reel down about six revolutions and this sets the hook in the roof or corner of the mouth no more gut hooks killing the fish. Now if I'm fishing to keep them I just use big octopus hooks. And I snail not all my hooks

I went catfishing this morning and I used freezer burned chicken breast and all I caught was huge turtles I fished at a pretty big pond near my house that is said to have big catfish so far I have yet to catch one but I will not stop fishin till I catch one there

Remove the tail and shell from your shrimp. The shell can interfere with your hook set
