1994 is an epic year for Music. Peral Jam's Vitalogy, Soundgarden's Superunknown, NIN's Downward Spiral, Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies, Beck - Mellow Gold, Beastie Boys - Ill Communication to name a few. An absolutely unprecedented year of album drops.

Scott always wrote his own lyrics. The guy was a poet. His lyrics were always really deep. The man wrote books on the side.

Any chance you react to Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop? its probably their most original album, great diversity and underrated gems there.

Watching you react to “Still Remains” gave me life. I’ve never met anyone who appreciates the song for what it is… the fact that you said it was your favorite after it was done means the impact of its beauty really hit you. I’ve been listening to this record since I was in middle school a couple years after it was released. 30 years of this being one of the best songs I’ve ever heard and it’s sooo fun seeing someone hear it for the first time. Thanks for sharing with us. I saw them in concert when I was in middle school and fell in love with Scott Weiland after seeing him live… and now this summer I get to see STP perform (rip Scott - he was a rock god). I’m still mourning his death and cannot wait to hear these songs that were the soundtrack to my life live again.

Flies in the Vasoline comes from when Scott was a kid…he heard The Eagles “Life in the Fast Lane” and thought they were saying “flies in the Vasoline “, and not Life in the fast lane, lol

I bought this album when it came out when I was 16. It was bought with my first paycheck and played it over and over again. It’s been a while since I’ve heard this album. Thanks! This is a timeless album. They don’t make music like this anymore. Great reaction! That’s crazy you said the big empty was the reason people bought this album. That was the case for me. It’s a great tune! The chorus is very powerful

I was always hoping someone would react to Blind Melon "Nico". It was released after Shannon Hoon overdosed. I grew up during this time period. I didn't cry when Kurt Cobain died. I didn't cry when Layne Staley died. But, I cried my ass off in my 1977 Monte Carlo when Shannon Hoon died. Such a beautiful voice/soul.

I'm glad people of new generations are finding this stuff. Music needs a kick in the ass. Kitchenware wasn't the hidden track, it's after that, but I'm about to find out if you catch that or not 😂 You should check out some of my music, sometime. I started playing in 92. There's a playlist of my old bands on my channel. Unfortunately, I don't have any of my new stuff recorded.

This is the album that got me into rock, back when it was released. Also, for the longest time I thought it was called "12 Gracious Melodies" because that's all you could read on the CD, which I still have. There was not a single mention to "Purple"! Also, there was no internet...

I believe that most of the song lyrics on Purple are about Scott Weiland trying to get sober Vs. his experiences with drug addiction, and how his addiction was negatively impacting his relationships (romantic and professional).

A lot of the guitar voicings are actually pretty inteicate. A lot of jazzy and bluesey stuff played in a 90s rock way. Interstate is built off of a bossanova riff. But you almost don't catch it until you know.

I don't mean this to be flippant, but maybe I do. Anytime I'm not sure what Scott's words mean, I assume he's talking about heroin and everyone he lied to about quitting, and them having the unmitigated audacity to be mad at him for being mad at them when they call him out.

Yeah a fair warning for your entire Weiland-era STP journey, the bright sounding music usually acted as an offset to strange lyrics that were often about some pretty dark and/or heavy shit. It can be highly deceptive.
