Zouden we in elk geval leuk vinden. Groetenz, Wim

In your opinion, how does your Lagoon handle rough weather? It looks like the middle span part of hull was slamming down onto the waves. Just wondering how the hull stands up to that, and if it sends slamming type shocks through the hull?

Have a look at E16 (trip to Ibiza) - self explanatory - rock solid & to me it seems she could take a lot more - A very seaworthy cat!

What I was getting at is cats have the middle section span between the pontoons that in large seas hit the waves flatly, like a belly flop. Mono hulls don't have that problem. Since this trip showed the cat dropping down onto the waves hard, (judged by watching the force of the sea come through the trampoline) how is that slamming force transmitting through the hull to the crew? Does the hull echo or vibrate from those hits? Does the hull shape and composite material make the sound of the waves hitting the hull seem louder than one would normally expect? In no way am I putting the Lagoon down, I'm just trying figure out the engineering of ship handling in rough seas.

Straight up, its not an issue with the Lagoon, it splits the force of impact, truly well displaced & those things are built to take it - stunning engineering and materials in that section..... I've just come back from 3 days on a 42 & I had the same thought. The area in question is built like a Leopard 2 gen 5 tank.

When still in the harbour of Ciutadella we went out a couple of times because the waves rolling straight into the narrow harbour entrance didn't look very inviting (short and steep). Decided to sail out anyway because we were convinced the boat could handle it. It's clear that these kind of waves are very unpleasant compared to much bigger but longer waves. In our 39 we experienced that it can get very uncomfortable. We were positively surprised at the way the 52 handles circumstances like this, it did feel ok at all times. Might be the better division of weight compared to the 39 or the higher total mass.

Didn't see the follow up before I answered your original question. Further out at sea the water was still pretty disturbed because of storms from different directions in the previous days. After a couple of hours most of the wind disappeared and what was left came straight from behind. On the bright side the movement of a catamaran in such conditions is far more comfortable than a rolling monohull; the downside is the noise. In my experience the waves hitting the hull in situations like these make more noise than on a monohull. No echos, no vibrations, no doubt whatsoever whether or not the construction of the hulls is up to it.
