A Cathay Pacific Being 747-8F, registration B-LJG, is loaded with the single heaviest piece of cargo (60 tons) ever carried by a commercial 747. The cargo is a telescopic joint for a drill ship, which compensates for the give and heave of the ship in rough seas, keeping the drill pipe straight and on course. The event took place at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on 05 July 2013. Filmed by Nathan Moeller of Astro95 Media.
Raw video of the event can be found here - • [WORLD RECORD] Raw Vid...

Being its July in Houston, I imagine it must be in the 90's close to 100 and humid. So the 747-8 was hot and heavy. It handled the load and temps with no problem. Great aircraft and great GE engines.

I was on a similar crew In Minneapolis where we put a drive-shaft of a hydroelectric dam on a 747 freighter and we did it exactly like this crew. We made the paper I remember. Sometime in the late 90’s. Nose to tail. Probably lighter than this freight, but just as long I’d imagine

Hello, author! Thank you so much for the video of takeoffs and landings on the Boeing 747. The pilot's work is very impressive. There is a technical question for you about the Boeing-747-8F. During loading and unloading operations, how are pallets with cargo and aircraft containers moved from the loader truck to the cargo deck of the Boeing-747-8F? I did not see the hoists of the hoisting system and the hoisting cables to drag pallets with cargo and aircraft containers. Please answer.
@Astro95Media
@Astro95Media 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Pavel - there's a system of rubber wheels and guides in the floor of the airplane which moves the pallets along. They're controlled by joysticks lining the walls of the hold. You can see them in this image here - www.flickr.com/photos/astro95media/51368823419/in/album-72157719640073007/

EdwardRCL RCL You need a valid drivers license, it’s not difficult to get. You can get this job as a ramp agent at Worldwide Flight Services (these are the guys in the video), Menzies Aviation, Swissport, Accufleet, Dnata, or apply directly with the airline (which is difficult). Airlines are in contract with ground handlers to provide them the ramp and warehouse service, so the pay isn’t that great.

Maximum structural payload for the 747-8 is 295,800 lbs. I'm not sure what the payload limit is for this specific range, though (IAH-ANC-HKG-INC). The long piece being loaded that day was about 120,000 lbs. and was headed for Incheon, South Korea via Anchorage and Hong Kong.

+Fabish D. Okaka The 747-8 outperforms the An-124 in efficiency and maximum payload weight, but the An-124 can take on more voluminous payloads than the 747-8. That's the big seller for Antonov - size. Of course, the An-225 blows both out of the water. I walked beneath that behemoth in April 2015 and it's a monster of an aircraft.

Pretty much the ground handling companies provide the man power to these crews. Often it’s just to provide the bodies to help out. Usually there are a core group of employees that have a ton of experience to direct what goes on. And then the company loadmaster needs to verify that everything will be safe.

It's likely that it also has to do with QA work being done at the assembly facility here in Houston. Besides, it's far quicker and easier to load one piece than to load several. They've done several of these so the process obviously makes sense.
@danielrose1392
@danielrose1392 6 жыл бұрын
Especially with such safety critical components, you have to test them after assembly. Likely not possible where they put the part on the platform. Also keep the risks in mind, if that part fails you have a major oil spill and you can potentially lose a platform. In addition, what do you safe shipping it in parts? The cylinder liners are nearly as big as the whole piece and not assembled very fragile. With all the packing material, you likely need more than one 747 to ship that stuff disassembled.
