Cathay Pacific team CX078 flying the sector SIN-PEN

Hello! How do you do everyone. Today, I flew to Singapore then on to Penang, training another pilot joining from the B777. Caroline went through the ranks as JFO then Senior First Officer and then Captain on the B777. She has now joined the B777 fleet and will be our only B747 ‘Superjet’ Captain. We’ve had others before but there’s been an attrition and we ended up with none. But they are coming back! Will is the safety pilot on the flight as usual for initial training sectors of a new pilot.
It was a pleasant day out. A bit of banter...Chi Di Gin! Later!😀✈️✈️✈️

Dear Captain Obet, can you please explain the black lines on the window post to the right of Captain Caroline ( looks like they were drawn with a marker ). I saw them in one of your simulator clips as well. Are they some sort of visual reference? Are the used for taxi? or in flight ( VFR conditions )? ...maybe some sort of attitude reference or maybe used for parking?

Pilot_Obet, every time I fly CX during the Captain’s announcement they reference Senior F/O. If there is a Senior F/O, by inference there must be a Junior/Basic F/O. What is the discriminating factor that makes one a Senior F/O?

Hi- sorry for the late reply. It’s mainly experience on the type. Usually once a first officer joins the fleet from a lower rank of second officer ( entry level from flight school), they upgrade to the rank of Junior first officer. It takes at least one year as junior first officer, before going through some required checks/ training to then pass an upgrade check to become a senior first officer. Essentially experience is deciding factor

@@CaptainJadenAR slats are usually found on the leading edge of the wing (front) whereas flaps are primarily found in the trailing edge of the wing (back), both have pretty much the same purpose (correct me if I'm wrong) - to increase the wing surface area to generate lift and to reduce air speed when landing
