I love Joan Didion, I’ve read everything …her mind was truly a gift we will have forever, thanks to all her beautiful works. A year of Magical thinking, was just that for me, after my mothers death…I had someone in the world who understood, RIP Joan

I was there. Vanessa's reading of the final pages from the memoir Year of Magical Thinking was the most electric and devastating moment of the event. Didion's close friend Susanna Moore provided the best-written speech--funny, poignant, and revealing.

Man, I was so worried Patti’s nerves might get her like The Dylan Nobel ceremony - but she did a great job.
