There's something really refreshing about Queen Latifah's attitude. Nice to see someone supportive of her colleague and gracious in defeat. @@victoriacrompton3760 Having seen the original many times and many productions over the years. Zellwegger was not just soft spoken. She played Roxie with just the right dose of being in part malevolent and dumb....something no one has been able to do as well, not even Gwen Verdon. Not for one second did the audience think of her as being evil even though what she did was utterly horrible. Zellwegger was just perfect.

Renee, Catherine and Queen in Chicago (which also had countless unforgettable female extras), Nicole, Meryl and Julianne in The Hours with Meryl going solo in Adaptation and Julianne in Far from Heaven, Selma Hayek in Frida, and more. The Academy Awards have always been 65% politics, and 35% art. The politics is usually evident by the films that DON'T get nominated. Chicago won because it was a musical, a genre Hollywood wanted to preserve. Not only that, although it's undeniably mean spirited, it's underlying message was feminist in nature. And truthfully, as it turned out, it was one of the best musicals that ever made the leap onto the big screen, mainly by the innovative way it was filmed and presented. It deserved every single award it won!

She's so exceptional.. Her lashing points & flexes were so very well executed&well defined, & with her very outrageous unintentionally over-shining brand of acting style was undoubtedly how she won it for an oscar.. bravo Chicago. 👍
