I loved what she said, " when you honor her you 're honoring my dad whose taught me everything about acting." She is so loving in the way she expressed herself to everyone and includes her dad in this fashion. Love her for that. May she be given other opportunities to take roles of substance because she's got the making of a great artist! Don't give up Mira!

1. Kate Winslet - emotionally-driven and calibrated performance (She won the Screen Actors' Guild and BAFTA Awards for this film.) 2. Joan Allen - a slow-burn acting showcase 3. Mira Sorvino - appealing role, committed performance 4. Mare Winningham - strong acting plus due points for her fine singing work in the movie 5. Kathleen Quinlan - passable

To be very honest though I have to say this is one of the worst Oscar wins ever. Any other one of the actresses would have been better deserved. My pick would have been Joan Allen.

agree. I first watched Mira in the Replacement Killers. Then when i watched Mighty i almost didnt even recognize her. To keep up that voice and make her dialogue, which is seriously close to offensive at times seem innocent and funny is something not many leading ladies could pull off nevermind a supporting actor. She definitely made that part her own. Compared to Kate Winslet who has the on screen appeal of a plank of wood. I'd rather have stinging nettles rubbed into my eyes than watch her lame emotionless acting......

@@kathyscherrercieplinski3324 It was a reference to the Italian film _Il Postino,_ which was nominated that same night for several Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Score. Incidentally, its main star, Massimo Troisi, was posthumously nominated. Sadly, he had died at age 41 just prior to the film's release.

Who was the favorite that night? It’s kind of hard to tell. Perry even playing field. I’d say it was Joan Allen or Kate Winslet. For some reason, I’m not remembering the dynamics going on this category for this year. Maybe being Paul Sorvino’s daughter helped. I kind of love that Romy of Michele fame has an Oscar!

so your movie's the best movie out of all others that year, you win _Best Original Screenplay_ by a total LANDSLIDE _and_ you've got Mira Sorvino on your arm for the red carpet? if Harvey Weinstein's Mephistopheles, then Quentin Tarantino is his Faust. there's lucky then there's luckier, then there's Q.T. in 1994.

I think it's a fair question. Chalamet and Gerwig gave their money to a victim's group after voicing their disdain for Allen. Michael Caine trashed him, Sorvino trashed him, too. If the post Allen experience was as repulsive as many have said, including her, why didn't she return the Oscar she won by acting in one of his movies?
@gonaarc2612

Actors are very strange creatures, they believe they are entitled and pure, Greta, Chalamet, Winslet, Ellen Page, they all made headlines AFTER working with Woody, I never heard Scarlett Johansson, Marion Cotillard, Cate Blanchett or Penelope Cruz bitching about it, and they gave their best works with a Woody Allen script and direction, all BS!

WOODY ALLEN, HARVEY WEINSTEIN. we need to sit on this, we need to stew in this, at least for a second. a LOT of the things we love - a LOT - are at least in part brought about by people who do horrible, hideous things. allegedly. all allegedly, of course, at least in the case of Mr. Allen, whose movies I still respect so much ... it's just damn, man. what the fuck are we doing to each other? this woman, this bright, gorgeous, luminous woman, would be had, tempted, acted upon, betrayed, lied to, #Cancelled [in the '90s and '00s HARVEY WEINSTEIN could #Cancel anyone he pleased]. look what we did for you, Miss Sorvino. I'm sorry. I had no part in it but loving the movies that Weinstein c*nt helped produce, but still. damn. we did you wrong, and I'm sorry for my part. anyway. enjoy the day, everyone. it's the only one we got.
