in Lithuanian we have two words for blessing: "laiminti" (it derives from word "laimė" - fortune, happiness, luck) and "šventinti" (from "šventas" - holly). First one has a broader meaning and can be used by anybody (like 'parental blessing' of children for example) while second one means consecration of things by priest.

Hello, can I myself bless my car with holy water? Will it have any effect in case the car was used by an evil man as previous owner? I already changed the engine and then entire transmission. I suspect some evil forces being bind to the car somehow. I am a true catholic with deep faith and relationship with Jesus, God and Holy spirit, so I do not take blessing with holy water as some magic gesture. Thanks for reply.

You can ask a priest to bless it and he won't refuse.

You can bless yourself, loved ones, car, home, work space, etc with Holy Water blessed by a a Catholic Priest. Holy Water is a Sacramental used in exorcisms. Making The Sign of The Cross with Holy Water acknowledges you belong to God, cleanses, heals, remits venial sin, grants graces and drives satan and evil spirits away. Everyone should keep a bottle and use it daily. God bless!

"Psalm, Psalm, Southern" ha good one! We actually believe you get bless 'things', because to bless, as the priest said, has many meanings. but in this case of blessing things, a blessing would be to give it good fortune or rather, the favour of God. Objects or things cannot be favoured by God, but they can be 'Consecrated' which means to be 'set apart for God'. Water can be Consecrated and set aside for God and made Holy. Because we believe, where God is- it is Holy. and anything of God's is Holy. You can bless people because they can keep that favour of God.

Protestants bless things too, so why the question ? Surely it is second nature for Christians to bless things, places, people. Or do the many examples of blessings in the Bible count for nothing ? That the question can even be asked, says a lot about how secular US Christianity has become.

I’m no priest, but I’m not confident one can bless something not in their immediate vicinity, but I could be wrong. Even if it’s possible, it’s still best to do it in person.

@@killianmiller6107 thanks the problem is that I am trying to find out how to bless crucifix , rosary etc for some body who lives in a country where there is no catholic church around. I can't post them either. Not allowed

Ok, well, if you are in a particularly anti-catholic country, that definitely poses a problem. As I said, I could be wrong; God is not bound by our rules, so it may be possible to bless something over a distance (as a sort of exception to the rule). If you can get in contact with a priest, share your situation with them and I’m sure they can give you a better answer. If not, I can meet up with mine and see what he says. Is this for you or for someone else?
