I was 9 years old and had to be converted from Hinduism to the Catholic faith to go into a Christian Orphanage, run by Dominican Nuns in Trinidad. It was the first time I heard and learnt this beautiful hymn that always touched my troubled heart and brought peace to my soul. I am 71 years old and a born again Christian and the Holy Spirit lead me to this anointed hymn after all these years that still touches my heart and I thank Jesus for dying for me and for all the teachings and spiritual songs I learnt from my Catholic brothers and sisters. My spiritual eyes and ears were first opened to the Christian Faith and I am so grateful to God who saved me and my siblings. Hallelujah!

Like you I am returning fully to the Catholic church. I never really lost my faith but over the years turned my back on it through sin. I am totally so very sorry for offending God and lla few days ago a wonderful priest heard my confession. The first in over 8 years. I was afraid to seek absolution after being made to feel not worthy by a priest those 8 years ago but God never abandoned me and sent a wonderful priest to my parish to help me and grant absolution and the return to receiving Jesus, in Holy Communion. My heart and Soul are now healing and this hymn is constantly on my lips, in my heart. My childhood memories of this hymn come flooding back. Thank you God for having pity on me and showing your mercy.

@@yudhasibarani8476 Honest question, how can you guys love a song that states you deserve hell for your sins while living in a state of sin. For being outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation. Jesus Himself made this claim many times: “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and "I will raise him up at the last day.…" and "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh." This is not just my opinion, it's a fact. I implore you to look into this with a serious level of scrutiny. For when you do, you will find no other path to Heaven, being a Catholic is not a privilege, it is a duty, set by God (through Christ). Christ came to save our souls, He came to establish one Chursh, not 1000's of different denominations. One Fold and One Shepard, the alternative to Heaven is terrifying beyond belief.

Heard it again last year when watching the online Good Friday Way of the Cross on the Vatican FB channel with my mom and this time it really hit. Tried to look for it afterwards but I failed coz I didn't know any of the words so I had no clue😅 Fast forward to this year's Ash Wednesday Mass, I heard it again and this time made sure I got some words that I could Google to find it. I am 75 now. I learned this hymn in the Catholic Church, Rathmines, Dublin during evening devotions (Rosary, sermon, Benediction) there in the 1950s. I now live in Cardiff where evening devotions are an experience denied to newer generations of Catholics - one of the negative outcomes of Vatican Two. There are now calls from bishops and priests for a 'renewal', a concept I do not understand. Far better, I think would be a call for a 'restoration', a return to basics such as evening devotions.

Each person who loves Jesus and follows his commandments has a duty to seek out the goodness and worth of Christians of other Christian traditions. Luke chapter11 verse 23 " He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me scatters "

This hymn is heart touching😭. God the author💖💖. I have rendered this hymn as a solo in my church, during the holy Eucharist in the Anglican Church.💖💖

This hymn came to mind today, Friday, at about a minute before 3 in the afternoon. Beautiful hymn, great lyrics, and a good performance. God bless.

Remember this beautiful hymn from when I was in the Womens' Confraternity (third division) Clonard Monastery, Belfast, N. Ireland. I was a member from 1953 until 1962. Looking back, it was great to see so many young women turn out every third Sunday. In this, International Women's Day! I can't think of a better way to remember!
